Mod Bumper License Plate Mount DIY

I was disappointed with the front license plate mount that was in the back of the Bronco when I took possession. At least the dealer followed my wishes and didn’t mount it.

Received my Texas plate in record time… slightly over two weeks.

Ordered some stainless flat bar and fabricated my own. My design criteria:
a) Use the existing bolts in the Mod bumper
b) Build a mount that will push back out of the way when required rather than just smash (bash???) the license plate.

Here’s what I came up with:

Looks like it will work well.

Clever hinged attachment. You might want to have a license plate sized backer for the plate though - otherwise I can see your plate getting all kinds of bends/creases over time.

Similar to what I did, but no hinge, just bolted flat.

Cover up the ends of the bolts attaching the plate to the bracket.

Nice, but Texas State Law indicates plates must be oriented vertically.

Only problem is I somehow stripped out on of the Torque screws on the modular front bumper so I need to try to drill it out and extract it and replace it to balance out the mount. In CA I just install the front license plates so its one less reason to get pulled over.

Torx plus bits, regular torx will strip the bolt heads out.

You know everyone can plainly see your license plate number when you drive around, right?

$40 on amazon, delivered next day. no reason to make things more difficult than they need to be.

Thanks for all the “constructive” comments. I like to fabricate stuff.

Material: Stainless bolts and flatbar, some scrap 1/2” SS tubing. $20
Labor @ $200/hour. $900

No burns or emergency room charges.
