Mud/Rock Spray - How will you protect your paint?

How will you protect your doors from rocks/mud spraying up the side of your Bronco?

  • Paint protection film

  • Ceramic coating

  • Mud flaps

  • Side steps/running board

  • Don’t care about my paint - let the rocks and mud fly!

  • Line-X the rocker panels

  • The mall parking lot is pretty well paved. Not an issue.

It'll look good with some wabi sabi on it.

I'm gonna feel like a rube driving mine around before it has any trail damage.

Has anyone seen any custom attachments for the fender flares? I feel like if that gap near the end is filled in a bit, it could help with this too - without needing to go full mud flaps. Curious if anything like this exists?

But the picture shows them with the rock rails...
Was just chatting with a Ford Performance agent...He said there are cut outs (see image) for the rock rails on the semi-truck version ($449) that the other one does not have for $49.

I would assume these same holes could be cut out of the cheaper ones...?

The rear flaps are not compatible with rock rails even if they are behind the rear tire 🤷‍♂️

Probably twice! That's WAY too much.
Mostly my point is that while many of these options help protect the paint, the cost doesn't seem worth it in the long run unless you are going to use the Bronco off-road down narrow trails with a guarantee of limb scrapes, etc.

1. PPF - very expensive but probably the best option if you can afford it. - I know some people say it doesn't yellow but I've never seen one that doesn't yellow at some point.

2. Ceramic Coating - will likely make it easier to keep the car clean and shines up really nice but I don't think it offers any real "protection"

3. Mud flaps - great option to keep rocks and mud from being thrown up on your paint but they look dorky to me. Personal preference, I guess...

4. Side steps/running board - I know for a fact that the steps on my Raptor have likely saved my truck from stuff kicked up on the road while driving. They are great on my truck but I don't think I'd want them on my Badlands Bronco. I might consider adding them if my wife repeatedly mentions how hard it is to get in the Bronco.

5. I'll skip the "who cares" option for comments - I'm sure there aren't many that wish for their paint to be destroyed ASAP but there are a lot that consider a good rain a proper car wash.

6. Line-x is a great option but because it is applied by scuffing the paint, you can wait until your paint is damaged and then apply the coating. I guess there might be an advantage to applying it early if we are talking about a large rock flung up that might dent the panel if clean but might not have if coated.

I don't want side steps, but rock rails with a wing extension at the front may work as a splash guard for the doors to some extent. Maybe enough to keep the splash from the window area.
Won't know if this will be effective until someone tries it. It may be 2023 before I get mine delivered. ugh.
