You’re gonna get a lot of opinions. I use ASR, they are made in the US, the military uses their products, and they are reasonably priced. Check them out.

They carry an excellent line of hard shackles. Van Beest are some of the best. You’re gonna get a lot of opinions. I use ASR, they are made in the US, the military uses their products, and they are reasonably priced. Check them out.

Excellent advice. Every time you make a pull you heat the rope, friction. It needs time to cool off. After the third attempt you need to let the rope rest for ~15 minutes to maintain the necessary stretch that pulls out vehicles and doesn’t rip bumpers off.
Not if you run the chain through a snatch block via a Hi-Lift jack coupling, it’s like 3x the pulling power I think - saw on YT with the motor home and the farm test guy. YMMV.I'm guessing a 30 year old 50' logging chain is a bad idea?
At least logging chains don't age and aren't weakened by exposure to sun light.I'm guessing a 30 year old 50' logging chain is a bad idea?
Ehh. Chains in general DO age, just not as fast. We have to have our chainfalls and other devices checked yearly for any signs of wear, and they get de-rated or scrapped depending on what is found. At least logging chains don't age and aren't weakened by exposure to sun light.
True, but you're using yours so the links wear. Same is true for synthetic lines and steel rope. They just wear out from the inside.Ehh. Chains in general DO age, just not as fast. Just because it's steel doesn't mean it's any better.
