Onboard Tools -- essentials list?

I’m putting together a list of things for a tool roll or tool bag in the bronco for when I’m out and need to work on, adjust, fix or repair something.

Looking for ideas about what you all pack, as far as anything like spare parts to tools (wrenches, sockets, pliers, clamps, hammers, mallets, duct tape, screwdrivers, etc.)

As I try to decide what goes in the kit and what stays at home, it would be nice to know in advance something like “no bolt on your vehicle is XXmm” etc., too.

Yep. Everyone should get a TP40 bit for their onboard tool bag. Ford included TP30 and TP50 for the top, but the bolts for the Mod bumper and some interior bits are TP40.

I keep a cheap toolkit that I got at PepBoys, it has been very useful, albeit for small things.

I would recommend against removing individual tools from a set in case you need to help some other vehicle out. The 80/20 rule with recovery gear states that 80% of the time you use your gear will be helping someone else out.

I have a full mechanics tool set from Gear Wrench that I bought on sale. It came in a nice plastic box but it was bulky so I moved the tools to some tool bags by Step22 and Adventure Tool Company. Both companies make excellent bags.

I also keep a pair of adjustable wrenches and a bit driver in a little MOLLE pouch on the back of my seat for quick access and small jobs. They come in handy a lot.

For spares, I'm planning on carrying a CV axle and my OEM tie rods after upgrading to the Icon HD tie rods.

I also carry a full suite of fuses. I need to pack a small electrical kit with a multimeter, wire, tape, and crimp connectors.

Things get added little by little.
