Ouray trip suggestions

The reason for Alamosa is so we can stay south and take the MDH into Ouray. From KC to Alamosa is like a 13 hr drive. I'll take a look at trying to push farther! Thank you!!

Looks like you're putting a lot of thought into planning this trip. 13 hours is a long day on the road! If your plan is MDH then Alamosa is a reasonable overnight stop. You'll be passing within about 15-20 minutes of our house in Cuchara. If you hit Walsenburg around dinner time, The Stokehouse is a good place to eat.

One day, after I get some quality seat time, moab and the 4 corners region will be a separate trip.

I just thought it was interesting it was so close; for some reason I thought it was in western Utah. I spent four days right after (on a 14 day trip...) in Estes Park off-season (not for me, btw) and would've much rather cut a day off that to roll over and at least check it out. I was so irritated about that at the time! lol It's a long effin' way away so it might be ten years before I can go that direction that far again.

When I went down there a couple of years ago, we stayed in Lake City the first night, then did the southern part (Cinnamon/Animas Forks/California/Hurricane/Corkscrew) of the Alpine Loop to Ouray. Ouray was then our home base for a few days (Imogene, Ophir, Governor Basin, at that time Black Bear and the Telluride side of Imogene were closed due to mudslides).

I did Engineer solo the first day, as I had to leave before the rest of my crew, and they were planning on running it to head back out of town. Glad I did, that day I only saw one other vehicle on the entire trail. They played for another couple of days in Ouray (Poughkeepsie/Mineral Creek, not sure what else), and headed back on Engineer.

Maggie's was good for a burger in Ouray. Mi Mexico was pretty good as well.

We’re actually stoping in Ouray a week or so after you for four days, then on to Moab for nine days Where we’ll meet up w/ Jeep friends.
