Overeager Automatic Headlights and Screen Dimming

I guess this isn't exactly an issue, but has anyone else noticed that the automatic headlights turn on at the drop of a hat and stay on way later in the day than most everything else on the road?

I've noticed when driving the kids to school eastbound, sun completely up (and in my eyes), the automatic headlights are still on and I can barely read the dimmed screens through the sunglasses that are necessary at this point of the day to see out of the windscreen. When they do finally turn themselves off, all it takes is driving under the shade of a couple trees and they pop back on. I'm the only asshole in carline at 8am with their headlights on.

Unless the daylight sensor is right behind where the registration sticker goes, nothing should be obscuring it, and I'm not aware of any option (either vehicle settings or forscan) to control the sensitivity of the sensor.

The auto dimming dash backlight is super annoying. It will change the brightness of the screen when you drive into and out of shade.

Also, the Day/Night mode is clueless. You would think that since it has GPS and a clock, it would know when to switch between day and night based on the time and your location but it doesn't. if you drive into a tunnel or underground parking during the day it should be smart enough not to switch to night mode on the dash, even if it is dim enough to turn on the headlights. Other cars can do this, the Bronco should be able to as well.

You can change the delay from 20 secs to 120 secs in the vehicle settings. That should help your tree shade situation.

Turn off auto high beams and set the navigation to permanent dark mode. That fixed most of my dash and headlight complaints.

I’m not going to publicly admit how long I stumbled around through those menus and never found that. Do you remember what the title is by chance?

I hate auto high beams with a passion. Driving around any decently populated area, especially with fresh, nicely reflective road signs, is like having your own little high beam rave.

Well, I discovered that this does not change how long it takes before turning on your automatic headlights, but instead is how long the headlight stay on after you turn the ignition off.

There's a local restaurant we love going to, and often we will order to go. Their pickup/takeout parking spaces face directly toward the outdoor dining patio. Whenever I pull into one of those spots, I am courteous enough to turn off my headlights, so as not to blind the people trying to enjoy their dinner, not 30 feet away.

But guess what happens as soon as I get back in the Bronco and start it up… Auto headlights light up the night like a concert! Then I have to find the headlight knob on the dash and turn them off, which will take two or three seconds of me being the jackass....

You can change that in Forscan so the headlight switch stays in the last position you left it in.
