If on an incline use both.

If on flat surface use either one. Just remember to take it out of gear when re-starting (duh).

I usually use the ebrake in my flatish garage. I rarely use the gear method anymore. I enjoy hearing the ebrake engage and disengage. Adds to the experience, which is what a vehicle is all about...the experience.

I must admit the auto ebrake disengage feature when in gear is super nice and I used to use it daily. However, I stopped doing it months ago mainly because one morning my ebrake would Not disengage and unlike other cars that might continue to move...the bronco would NOT budge. I have no idea how a tow truck would even get it out of my garage. After 5 minutes of car on/off, pushing/pulling the lever/brake pedal, shifting into gears it FINALLY unlocked back to normal in large part because I pressed the brake pedal and at the same time pressed the lever in to disengage it. Like the old days. So now I only do the latter. Its been 6 months since it happened. Works perfect every time.

I can not imagine purposely leaving any of my vehicles out of gear.
1st or reverse. Brake always on newer vehicles. When needed on older farm vehicles.

Why would you ever park a vehicle with a manual transmission in neutral unless you had an aftermarket remote starter?

This is my third manual transmission, parking brake only, I only put it in gear if a really steep incline.

Never had a parking brake seize or a car roll on me, I like starting the car without worry about shifting out of gear.

Even on my autos I engage the parking brake. For my Bronco I always put on the parking brake first and then leave it in gear. For a brand new vehicle that I plan to keep for life I figure the absolute minimal effort is worth it.

I really wish they would make the parking brake auto engage when you press the button to shut the truck off. It already auto disengages, so it seems like a simple programming update.

Any standard I've ever owned, in gear with parking brake.

Don't you have to clutch in to start the car anyway? I don't think I'd ever just rely on the parking brake.

Clutch in is different from having it in gear

Eh, its all muscle memory. I've always had a manual and its just clutch in and pull it out of gear after starting.
