In preparations for the upcoming spring/summer, I'm looking to transfer my Ford Performance single ARB compressor "toolbox" kit to an underhood mount. Honestly, just looking at everything out there, is there any reason I can't just grab one of the mounts out there on the market, remove the compressor/bracket assembly from the toolbox and just use the existing wires from the attached harness (cut off the clamps and add connectors) and wire them to the battery/ground and call it a day? It just seems like all the wiring is already there, I just need to mount and wire it to the battery. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, along with any info if anyone else has done this conversion as well! Thanks!

Yup, should work. You have half of a twin, so bolt pattern on the mount plate would be the same. If any are missing, you can always drill them.

Yes you can do that and we have lots of customers who do that.

Our bracket is Made here in the USA out of stainless steel + powder coated black. It's the easiest bracket to install out of any bracket on market as well. It is compatible with the Single and Twin Compressors

When you buy from us you are buying from a small American Business that sells American Made Products.

Since you haven't started the project yet, you might want to consider alternate mounting locations. If you are set on the engine bay, then any mount should work with minimal modification to accommodate the bolt pattern. The harness is already adequate and should be plenty to route to the battery.

Okay, stupid question, but i was able to get the JCR mount second hand for a great deal, so I'm installing all of it on Friday. My question is regarding the removal and reattachment of the ground wire for one of the onboard computers that you have to do to slip the mount in place.

Do I need to disconnect the battery prior to doing that? Instructions and install video doesn't indicate that at all as a step, so I wanted to ask. I've also heard there is some extra steps you have to perform if you disconnect/remove the battery so I was hoping to avoid that.

Thanks for the help!

I did this. I already had the compressor. I only had to drill a few different holes in the mount (Barnes) ran the wires behind the cowling above the firewall. I chose to do a marine blade style battery disconnect vs wire to Aux switch or take the chance of direct to the battery and killing it with a parasitic draw. I was also worried the momentary load of the compressor would blow fuses on the Aux switches. I plan on running it until it doesn’t work or dies then I’ll upgrade-should be an easy if pricey swap. If interested I can take a few pictures tomorrow. I typically air down to 10-15psi on trails and the most time it took me to air backup was 30mins with a few breaks. I run the dual morrflate hoses vs. the quad to avoid taxing it too much.

My biggest concern under the hood is environmental. The heat and the water spray can be intense.

The single will work well. I run mines in the tailgate using an AAL mount. I have EZ Flate 4-way hoses.

I have ran it for two years now- no issues, fully expected to replace it after 6 months. Works every time -take extra time to route the wires and heat shrink/solder connections well.

Always, always, always dc battery when you are doing any electrical or installs in the engine bay- best case you fry some fuses, it only takes a little effort to have something $$$$ happen when you don’t- this is true for any vehicle. I’m sure someone will tell me I’m wrong but this is free, hard earned advice.

I appreciate the info. I also try to do that most times, but stupidly thought i may be able to avoid it in this case. I've just read there is some procedure you have to follow once you reconnect the battery on these things that I've never had to deal with before. I'll have to look into it more.
Okay, it seems like you only need to reset the battery management system if you replace the battery, not just disconnect and then reconnect the old one. Maybe?

Thanks everyone for the information. Finished the install today with the only casualty being a couple wheel liner clips. Still need to watch the hood and adjust the angle of the output, but it looks good for now. Ready to roll for the summer!
