2022 Big Bend, 2.3. build week 1/17/22. Ice mountain victim. Took delivery early August.

3500 or so miles on the odometer. Check engine light came up so I ran the code. Random misfire. Called the dealer and they said it would be 2 weeks before they could look at it. Took it in this past Monday. Figured it was a faulty spark plug, coil, etc.

I called daily for updates and they said they couldn't figure it out. Called today after work and they said they found coolant in the combustion chamber. They also so they can't dig much deeper right now because Ford is sending their techs in to oversee everything and figure how this could have happened.

First ice mountain and now this. Lol

Can really only be head gasket can't it? I used to work where they were made.

On a 4 cylinder ecoboost? You don’t say… apparently Ford still can’t figure out how to build one without coolant intrusion 🤦🏻‍♂️ 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.3.. they all have or have had issues with this. Usually not this soon though so hopefully it’s a fluke.

Hope they get you back on the road soon!

Oh my bad, we made 2.7/3.0 nanos. At least I haven't heard much about those head gaskets failing.

Did they pull head before diagnosing coolant in cylinder? If so then coolant migrating through open air is nothing to be co corned about.

Other than failed head gasket or warped head there are almost no possible contact of coolant with intake air

I would assume a borescope was used prior to any engine disassembly. But that's a good question.

Good call. Just did. 2.3

Service advisor wasn't much help on what was done to diagnose the issue.

Going to the dealer today or tomorrow to pick up the loaner

Picked up my rental on Sunday at Enterprise. Grabbed a few items from the Bronco yesterday morning.

Service advisor has no eta for anything. All he could tell me was they are leaning towards replacing the motor.

Sorry to bring up an old thread - but, what came of this? I just got the same error/code along with check engine light.

Same misfire on 2022/ice mountain/2.3. 2 different dealers, no resolution. It sounds like theories are coolant in cyl, or carbon buildup on valves. Doubtful on carbon, as random misfires were occuring on occasional cold starts when vehicle was <5000 miles from new. 48,000 miles on it, so scheduling apps for final warranty repair hope.

Any info from similar cases would be appreciated.

This makes me curious. I had to add some coolant to the reservoir because it was very low. I was wondering why the coolant level would be low. 😬

A lot of Broncos came low from the Factory, and it's normal to lose a bit (over years) to evaporation -- so I wouldn't read too much into very occasional fill. But if you have to top it off every few weeks, or even months - that could indicate something is up. If you are burning coolant, it will be more than the occasional top off.

Yeah that’s what I meant. I took a picture of it so that I can monitor it. I haven’t had a CEL yet and hopefully I won’t. I really like the 2.3l so far!
