Then I guess you blame the Board of Directors led by Bill Ford who are responsible for the CEO's performance.

Ultimately, the CEO and the board also answer to the company's shareholders and public investors, who vote on key corporate decisions and board member elections. .... then without getting too political; there's always the President. :ROFLMAO:

Tom
Yup. That's the system. More than 250 recalls in the last 3 years is a bit more than just tough luck. It's more than a recall a week. I obviously don't work for Ford but I have seen this kind of thing in my own career. Authority can be delegated, responsibility can not.

Personally, I'm not blaming the CEO pay, I'm blaming the CEO. He takes that massive compensation package for "all the responsibilities" of running a big, complex company. When the recall problems are this prolific, it's a systemic problem and the buck stops at the top. I'm sure he will gather tens of millions of dollars in a severance package, though, for all the good work that has been left behind in a smoldering heap of recalls.

Alan Mulally on the other hand, was not paid enough.
Two different eras. Mulally doesn't have to deal with the safety and emission regulations that Farley faces. Nor was the horsepower/efficiency competition nearly as nuts, in addition to an ever regulated labor force.

1700 improperly assembled engines is interesting......especially since wasn't a recent lot.

Absolutely, and it wasn't a cake walk then either. Mr. Mulally won my admiration when he sat in front of Congress and DIDN'T ask for tax payer money. I'd say he left Ford a much better company than when he found it.

Mulally reorgainzed Ford's financial war chest leading up to 2008 that gave Ford the deep capital well to turn around the struggling brand. Turns out this reorg came at the right time to give Ford the necessary buffer during the 2008 crisis. He got "lucky" in terms of political/pr leverage. Had he not mortgaged Ford's financial future in 2006, they'd be asking for a bailout too.

Have other people gotten this notice? Is it real?

This is just my opinion and may be wrong, but this is overblown. To put this in perspective 1700 units is about the output of a modern automotive assembly plant in a single day. Of the units included in a recall typically only a small number will have the issue. Most likely this recall will involve an inspection and only units found to have the incorrectly installed part(s) will get a new engine or whatever the remedy happens to be. Regardless, its mind blowing how many people with a keyboard and easy chair are experts in automobile manufacturing. Anyone can get a degree and throw around buzz words, it means nothing honestly.

Yes I have a degree. And I also have a Bronco with SEVEN open recalls. One of my recalls even left me stranded out in the boonies (low press fuel pump). These seven recalls are a small portion of the over 250 that have been issued over the last 3 years. Yeah, right, each one of these individual recalls mean nothing, until you've racked up an insane number of them. Then they are each a screaming message that your company has a massive problem.

I am also a bit of a Ford fan boy for reasons that go back to my childhood and it pains me to see them flounder like this.

This is for jobs that don't exactly require a lot of education or skills.
BTW, this is one of the most presumptuous statements I have ever seen on this forum. In my time as an engineer, some of the most knowledgeable and skilled people I ever worked with were the hands on mechanics and machine operators in the industry...union kind of folks. I learned more from them than any book or classroom.
