While I completely understand adding a rough rack will most likely add wind noise, I’m curious has there been any research done as to which roof racks is the most quiet?

Speacifically to a hard top 4 door.

Thanks in advance.

I did some very basic research using the sound meter on my Apple Watch. Not super scientific, just whenever I have the opportunity and I'm riding in someone else's Bronco.

So far, the factory roof rack was the quietest. The loudest was the Gobi rack.

One thing I have not done yet that I'd like to try is remove crossbars from my Trailrax. The factory roof rack only has two crossbars, so I'm guessing that might have to do with the lower noise. Although I suspect removing crossbars from my Trailrax will also reduce load rating.

OEM is not loud, no annoying whistles or sounds.
When in doubt, turn up the music!!!

So this isn’t answering your specific question of formal research, just adding my opinion. I didn’t notice enough difference pre/post rack (trailrax) and no additional difference with adding an awning and now kayak rack. Volume 15 is the sweet spot at highway speeds regardless 😜.

I just installed a Trailrax with the cutout deflector on my 4dr...only a slight amount of additional wind noise, so minimal I don't even hear it anymore. I do have the newer painted hardtop with the upgraded sound deadening that comes on the 2025 models, not sure how much that makes a difference but wanted to mention.

Every rack is going to make noise. You get use to it. Unless it whistles; that would be unacceptable. I have the zroadz, it’s not bad, just a low rumble, and I don’t even use the fairing.

Well, the EOM rack has a defect, with the MIC top, you will not be able to remove the center section without removing the rack. The OEM rack does not generate any noticeable wind noise.

So after I received my ‘22 4dr and went through engineering a lift in the garage to remove the rack to remove the center section of the MIC top, I sold my OEM rack.. wasted money.

Aftermarket Racks….
Do you want full length? The one I settled on was HookeRoad, it had all the features I needed. BUT, the wind noise…….. like many others they put a trim piece that fits against the edge on the front deflector where it meets the body. I thought it was tacky. I engineered my own piece of metal to replace the front deflector to test the wind noise.

the final change was very simple, no noise, no trim piece.

I have the OEM Rails and added Exposed Racks to the hard top mainly because I can use the same crossbars in Soft Top Mode when i make the switch. I don't hear any wind noise.

I've got the gobi, and I'm surprised to hear it made someone's loudest list.

I bought the add on wind deflector, but gave it a test before I installed it.
I couldn't really hear much of anything.
Not much difference with the deflector either unless it's a windy day out.
I hear some, and from memory the hooke road rack has an audible whistle, which would understandably be awful, but when I could hear anything at all with mine, it was more like a general wind buffeting sound... Like blowing into a microphone.
