Wait, did you somehow break the head off the triangle bolt?

You're going to have to completely disassemble the roof rack on the vehicle itself (lots of Torx and plastic pieces)... and maybe you can get to the screw on the back side.

I bought the rack used and they guy told me I don’t need the tool.

So... uhhh... interesting.

There is supposed to be a captured bolt in there with a triangle head. The "special tool" is just a wrench that fits that triangle headed bolt. I could see someone swapping the bolt out with another bolt without that triangle head, but in your case you have no bolt at all.

Makes me wonder how you were even able to attach that roof rack securely to the vehicle in the first place. SO... you're going to have to take off all the plastic pieces and see if you can loosen the mechanism from the top.

What not just ask if someone in Houston will lend you their tool?

Definitely can’t order a new tool
Just posting this for anyone that may find it helpful, as I had trouble locating the tool as well and referenced this thread. The ford service part number on the removal tool is M2DZ-7855100-A. As of this date it is on backorder, with some expected to be released soon. Note that the number that is physically printed on the tool is different from the above service part number.

Do you have apart number for the special bolts?

Not only is the tool a triangle, but it is a torque wrench too. You can try to borrow one, and if you need a new bolt grab one from Ford while you are at it.

I was able to pull the part number contents of the roof rack kit. There are only two part numbers that are hardware. Try this part number: W721790-S450B the description is nut m6 hf rnd bld barrel and it calls for a quantity of 8. I can't find a picture of it, but for $13 or so you could have your local dealer order one and see if its what you're looking for
