Love the Foutz design on their skids but had a friend try to install them and had all kinds of issues. He ended up taking his Bronco to Foutz to have them installed.

I ordered a set of IAG skids since they fit the Badlands with the factory bracing and they seem really easy to install. I'm also going to order a couple of sheets of HDPE to bolt on so they are similar to the Foutz design.

What kind of issues? Did he already have the factory skid?

Im in the process of installing these right now and having some issues as well.

First, they sent me the wrong hardware. The bolts I got were not the same pitch as the nut plates and I knew they would strip. After some back and forth, they sent me two new nut plates and some hardware, but turns out they sent me the raptor kit. And now I need a third nut plate that they should have just sent me the first time. I understand shit happens, but for a $500 skid plate these issues should be avoidable and easy to fix, but here we are.

Now, onto the figment. I’ve only installed the driver side while I wait for the additional nut plate for the passenger side. Getting them over the stock badlands skid plates was challenging. I’ve banged mine up a little bit so I expected it to be difficult, but this was something else! Lots of bending, WD40, and dead blow hammer on my back under the truck to get it in place. My frame-mounted RCI rock rails needed to be loosened and pulled away from the truck to get the skid plate flat against the frame.

If you look at the picture below you can see that the front mounting hole does not line up with the hole in the frame. I am tempted to drill it out, but also don’t want to take everything off to paint it after. So I might just leave it as is, which I wouldn’t do except that my rock rails sandwich the front lip of the skid plate. This is how it is held up on the passenger side with the gas tank skid so I think it will be fine.

I’m sure the passenger side will be even more difficult and I am not looking forward to installing it. But I’ll provide updates if there’s anything out of the ordinary.

Anything new on the market?
IAG is working on a heavier duty skid plate. I know because they sent them to me to try after I wrecked their original skid plates. Unfortunately, they were very long and interfered with my rock sliders so I had to send them back, but I would expect them to release more details soon.

Just got these made by Turn Offroad. Driver side requires drilling one hole. Pretty beefy and fits the Bandlands with the extra welded on plate.

Edit: The passenger side 45 degree upward bevel hits this piece on the inside and does not set in place correctly and the hole that bolts into the frame under the gas tank skid is not lining up. (2DR Badlands Sas)

I need to get some ramps so I have more room to see if I can work around this thing first before I can mark the frame hole to drill out a longer slot in needed. (put fluid film around areas that the skid would cover)

The two Dr has a bolt for the gas tank skid on the passeger side and a hole with a nut already in it on the driver side......but these are obviosuly designed for a 4Dr but not stated as to which model they fit on their website. The hole will not line up with the skid plate bolt on the passenger side (had to machine it out to a slot). The nut they give you for the driver side is welded to a piece that you slide into a slot on the frame but will not work because of the welded in existing nut that is in the way. The 2 Dr version would require a longer tab that bolts into the frame rail to allign with the existing nuts in the frame on both sides. Also the gas tank skid and tank prevents the passenger side from alligning with the frame unless you trim off the inside edge.

I'll likely get a square ubolt type clamp for the frame on the driver side since drilling a hole in the frame will not work. The slot I had cut will work for the passenger side so the skid can be between the frame and gas tank side plate. The area cut off along the inside edge will clear the lip on the gas tank skid and not contact the gas tank as well..

The two bolts the mount it to the LCA mount should be fine. IF something mashes into the skid.....It can't move upward and snap the bolts as it sits against the bottom of the LCA frame mount so Im not really worried too much about the tab between the frame and gas tank skid being a little shorter than it should be.

Good god lol. Talk about custom fit haha. Well damn I’ll contact them to see if any of this got resolved. I have a 4dr sas so I’m hoping maybe it’ll work. Thanks for the info!

Does anyone have suggestions for a skid plate for the badlands rear trailing control arm. The JCr one I ordered does not seem to fit . I looked at the ASFIR one and it also does not fit the badlands

We could use less "works of art" and more affordable.
Buy once, cry once. I’d rather spend the money for quality stuff, than buy shit that breaks and you have to buy again. This hobby is expensive, what can I say.
