So I test drove an Explorer ST today which has the 3.0L twin turbo rated at 400HP with 415lb-ft ... WOW!

So after reading many great reviews about the 3.0L in the Explorer ST, I decided to take a test drive.

OMG! It is ridiculously fast and the one I drove had the upgraded brake package. I think it had better brakes when compared to my M2. Please note, the Explorer ST weighs 1250 pounds more than my M2. The Explorer ST is def a sleeper and the ST steering wheel belongs on a sports car.

If the Warthog has this engine then Jeep can keep its V8

I am seriously considering cancelling my 2021 Bronco order and waiting for the Warthog.

Tuned 2.7 can make 400hp and 450lb ft. Of torque on 93 octane....just sayin ? I still think the 6.7 baby Godzilla is coming to at least the Raptor. I’m still deciding 2.3 or 2.7 lol.

sure .. you can tune any turbo engine BUT I rather have it out of the box with 400HP and 415ft-lb. And if Ford puts in the 3.5L, then the Warthog will be a BEAST!

btw ... I don't think many here will tune their engines.

On my 3rd Flex Ecoboost 3.5 with tune. I totally get what you mean. Pulls pretty good for a big ass brick!

I have been trying for months to talk my wife into a FlexBoost and cannot get her to budge. Would be a hell of a lot more fun than my Pilot, and every bit as family capable, if not more. Sigh...

This motor is more advanced than the 3.5 and will respond well to mods.

For me, I like my ecoboost
Moving from my 3.5 ecoboost to a v8
Would be like going from a zero turn mower back to the old school steering wheel model :)
Drive a GT350 and you’d have to eat those words.

weird. I was doing some research and it seems the 3.0 is only direct injection and does not have port injection. Is this right?

This. The 3.5 is still an old design, IIRC Ford is continuing to phase it out except for the F-150.

Expect the 3.0.

The 3.5 flex awd is a rocket. I have one and I with the bronco was getting a 3.5 eco. And if you don’t think it is go drive a non eco boost one, I got one as a rental one time and it’s night and day.

Well, yeah. The one without two snails is bound to be slower. FI is important where I live. You lose a lot of ponies at 7500’ without blowers/turbo.
