They mark the inside position of the tire. You can line up your trail obstacles (such as rocks) with the trail sight and be confident your tire is going to hit them. Except the Raptor, I think, because of the width. Although maybe someone with a Raptor can verify.
When you are in the cab you can still see the trail sight deletes, thus it still acts as a marker.

I think @Stick in the Mud was just being funny about the Raptor wheels because they are very wide.

The trail sights are meant to indicate the inside edge of the wheel/tire. Supposed to be useful when off-roading.

I prefer the hood line of the original generation Bronco. For me, the trail sights look like the sight on a gun barrel and are unnecessary. I won't use them to tie down anything and the fender still serves the purpose of positioning the wheels.

So for people who go to aftermarket wheels and tires, they become totally useless. Except as tie down points.

I don't understand the trail sights. I've never had a problem knowing where my wheels are going go if I can see my fenders. One thing I don't like about the Wrangler.

I think they'd be handy as tie downs and a place to attach limb risers. Maybe the original purpose until marketing got involved?

Same. Ford has been putting the wheels in the same spot since 1903, out on the corners. Pretty easy to find em. I don't need some big ugly plastic pointer sticking up to tell me that.

At $280 for a set, I’ll keep the Ford trail sights on, thanks 🤪

They are Trail Sights that serve a dual purpose as a tie down.

Ford doesn't even refer to them as such in the owners manual - must be a marketing thing, cant see them pushing brush out of the way or being useful as a sight so you know where your fenders are.

It's not about knowing where your fender are. It is about knowing where the track of the tire is. Ford did promote a limb riser early back in 21 with the Overland Concept and also the famous 2-dr shadow black with the mythical gloss black modular top in pre-production media promotions in 2020 and 2021 that showed the limb risers. They never did come out with a product. GearShade (William Hare) recently received a patent for his limb risers.

So when you change your wheels and tires they become useless.

Not really. Any aftermarket wheels will only vary by an inch or so from the stock or Sasquatch offset. If by chance you are one to opt for an extreme negative offset,

I would say you have a longer list of what is useless besides the trail sights.

Never had them on my Jeeps. Really don't see any use for them except for tie downs. Mine are gone.
