So I got the cargo tray from @GoatFab last week. Waited til Friday to try to install it and ran into a couple of issues.
Let’s start by saying the cargo tray is beautiful and heavy! Quality construction, quality hardware. As soon as I opened the box I knew I liked it. This is the 2nd item from GOAT FAB, and I will tell you know that it feels 100% worth the money. Not to mention made in America with American steel!
So first things first:
I grabbed the hardware and the T post and went out to my Bronco. The T post uses the bottom speaker mount and a 2nd hole. So here’s where I had a problem. Apparently certain 2021’s did not come with that hole! I quickly snapped a pic and emailed GoatFab and Adam quickly responded with his phone number and said “call me”. So I called him up and we discussed ir a bit. He immediately offered to return it if that’s what I wanted to do, or I could go the route of drilling holes and installing hardware. We had some discussion and I really wanted to keep the cargo tray, so he sent me a link to the tools I would need. Now if you’ve got a nut insert kit you’re golden, I didn’t. So I ordered off of Amazon. It was reasonably priced and would deliver the next day. (I’ll include a link at the end).
Saturday the tool kit was delivered and I was at an event for a local charity so when I got home I opened it up and checked it out to make sure it had all the pieces I’d need. I was good to go!
Sunday morning I head out and set to making marks, and drilling holes!
In all honesty drilling the holes for the nut insert was a HUGE sink. Drilling was not fast, despite the bits saying they were good for steel…
but anyway. I’ve got it mounted and there’s where I found a few other issues.
I initially wanted to install it at a height that would allow me to still put my folding table and large cooler that I take camping with me. So I did some measurements, chose the right height holes and went about test fitting. Once I got into place, the soft top will not close. The latches hit the basket and won’t come all the way down to secure the soft too. I currently have the seats reclined a bit, and that’s likely the culprit as I just checked as I just checked and the “recline” takes up about 2 inches. I’ll have to experiment with this another time.
I got it installed and I’m very happy with it. I do need to find somewhere else for my fire extinguisher as I had it on the roll bar and it no longer has room to mount.
I also added a little flair of my own. My Submarine Dolphins.
