About 2 months ago, I banged up the bumper on my Bronco and the passenger side got pushed back about 3/4 of an inch. In the process of removing it to get to the mount that got bent, I ran across this stamped into the passenger side bumper mount (Driver's side doesn't have this):

Yes, it says "Congratulations on ponying up for a more capable bumper". Sassy, silly, or maybe mocking?

Was still a fun find.

I did indeed!

It makes me wonder if the capable bumper was originally intended to be the upgraded choice rather than the HD modular bumper.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the HD modular bumper was originally supposed to be a Ford Performance Parts upgrade and not something available from the factory.

No worries, I’m not staking a claim to it or anything.

Honestly I was surprised that I found one that I hadn’t seen posted anywhere. You’d think all of the Easter eggs would have been found by now. Wonder how many more there are that we don’t know about yet.

I think, and may be completely wrong. In 2021, the HD modular bumper was stock on BD and Badlands trim. At that time capable bumper was an additional $850. Then for 2022 they switched that and made the HD modular bumper the upgraded bumper for additional cost. I think i read somewhere that they had lots of capable bumpers and few HD modular in inventory at the end of 2021. This was a way to even out inventory and charge for the bumper more people wanted.

Actually, the Capable Bumper was not available at launch despite the OG Cactus Gray Mannequin that made the early publicity rounds showed it. The HD modular bumper was standard for '21 on the BD/Badlands. But that was more because it was the only steel bumper in inventory. When the Capable bumper finally became available for MY'22, the HD modular bumper became an optional upgrade.

To Bryan's theory, I would counter that the Capable bumper was always intended to be standard on the BD/Badlands and optional for other trims wanting a "capable" steel bumper. The HD modular bumper was intended to only be an option available to the Badlands.
