If you haven't seen my broken axle yet, here it is. Changed it out last weekend, wasn't too bad. Was my first time doing a job like this.

I would just put a screwdriver between the caliper and the fins of the brake rotor to prevent it from turning. No chance of messing up threads on your wheel studs. I missed the Link to the wood you used 😂

ah nice tip! I was just winging it haha. If you go to the description, I did put a Scrap Wood : Link haha. But it just takes you to my YouTube short of breaking the axle.

Almost all the work I’ve done on my vehicles has been solo and a learning experience. I started in the mid 80s, and it was mostly a Chilton manual and the guys at NAPA that got me through it. Now with YouTube it’s a completely different game. I can watch several different videos of the same procedure and gain valuable experience without breaking anything. Pulled my first CV axles about 10 years ago. Was fairly uneventful but I learned a lot.

Thanks for the video. I’m sure it will help others.

Thanks for posting...maybe this should be a sticky at the top of this section. If not at least a link to this thread from something that is a sticky tracking all the helpful video walkthrough stuff.

I don't follow the channel. How did you break it? Could this have happened due to the after market lift and oversized tires?

Tires probably didn't help. But if had my wheels fully cut to one side, thought they were straight. Then front locker and winched forward, putting all the pressure on that one axle. Pop Pop. There she went.

I kinda miss the days when a single Chilton or Haynes manual could walk you through anything you needed to do to a vehicle, plus that one pic they always included of a brand new vehicle completely taken apart was pretty cool. Trying to interpret what they meant with low res B&W thumbnails and a really brief overview could sometimes take hours. YT videos are great, especially when it's something common, but it can easily turn into a quest when you're trying figure out something a little more obscure.

Hey North Shore of what? Cold Lake? The REAL North Shore, like Tuk?
I spent about 250 hours, back in the '80s, flying over The Great White North during CANUS ALCM testing...never got to stop tho...

Yeah, I also used a LMC parts catalog for the exploded diagrams a lot. At least when I broke something on an old Chevy the parts were cheap and available.

I worked with them CAF guys on the cruise missile tests for four years.
Every summer we invited them down to Barksdale AFB (Shreveport, LA) for a lessons learned/golfing/drinking contest.
Us SAC guys thought we could DRINK!
We were WRONG!!!
