Before I decided on the Bronco, I was seriously looking at jumping through the hoops to import one of these. They check the boxes:
1) 4.2L Diesel Engine Rated for 1 Million KM’s Toyota put these engines in buses.
2) Fully removable top.
3) Fold down windscreen.
4) Very capable off road
5) Available stick or auto.

Problems:
1) Not sold in the US so you have import one at least 25 years old.
2) Even for a Land Cruiser 25 years old is still 25 years old. Wear and tear is real for these types of vehicles.
3) Maintaining and parts a little to a lot more difficult.
4) Cost to get one in and get it to match like new condition isn’t going to be cheaper than a new vehicle.

Bottom line is completion is great for all us. I would love for Toyota to step to the plate and give us a modern version of this vehicle (just not another FJ Cruiser).

I was shopping for an old FJ when I discovered IH Scouts. Would love to see an updated version of this. See as the Jeep has been fairly uncontested until now, it'll be interesting to see what others do to tap the segment.

I had a teacher years ago that had a different year and it was really nice like an early Bronco, but to build one now--to my satisfaction--would take deep pockets.

Scouts are beautiful, but mechanical nightmares.

Beautiful. I grew up in an fj62. When I lived in Central America I got to drive a Prado (90s) and a hilux (new) for months on end.

they were slow as a shit but perfect at the same time. The 2 doors are just 👌

I thought about importing one fromJapan but the emissions piece can be tricky for California. Also they really are slow for commuting on major freeways. I would still totally get one if it showed up...

also, RIP US land cruisers.

There is a RHD gold colored one running around my area. I have checked it while parked. It would be a fun wheeler but not something I would want to do many highway miles in.

OH SHIT! I remember seeing that in Italy (Diff color/trim, but still).

How much would it cost to bring that Land Crusher over now?

Shame the Land Crusher's dead, it'll be missed.

Also, in case any rich folks are secretly among us: Classic FJ Restorations
