Before I decided on the Bronco, I was seriously looking at jumping through the hoops to import one of these. They check the boxes:
1) 4.2L Diesel Engine Rated for 1 Million KM’s Toyota put these engines in buses.
2) Fully removable top.
3) Fold down windscreen.
4) Very capable off road
5) Available stick or auto.
Problems:
1) Not sold in the US so you have import one at least 25 years old.
2) Even for a Land Cruiser 25 years old is still 25 years old. Wear and tear is real for these types of vehicles.
3) Maintaining and parts a little to a lot more difficult.
4) Cost to get one in and get it to match like new condition isn’t going to be cheaper than a new vehicle.
Bottom line is completion is great for all us. I would love for Toyota to step to the plate and give us a modern version of this vehicle (just not another FJ Cruiser).
