Yesterday I crashed (probably totalled) my Bronco. A Toyota truck ran a red light, and I t-boned him hard. Probably 45mph. Airbag deployed. Front end basically gone. Coolant on the ground. And to top it all of I took a ride in an ambulance for severe chest pain that turned out to be a fractured sternum.

I made fun of my wife for getting emotionally attached to her vehicles. I never have - until now. Found myself tearing up a bit at the thought of losing my Bronco. I'm in a good deal of pain. Was in too much pain to take photos yesterday, but it's ugly

Now just waiting to hear from insurance.

1/3/24 UPDATE:

My son drove me to the wrecking yard today to get my belongings out of the Bronco. He shot a few quick pics of the damage. Insurance company wants to tow it to their yard to evaluate the damage. I told them to go ahead.

1/8/24 UPDATE:

Insurance company just notified me that they are totalling the Bronco. Their offer is more than generous - about $10K more than I paid new. Naturally I have agreed to their valuation. Should have the cash in my account in a few days less the $8000 or so that I owed on it. I have a couple of leads on nearby 2 doors. None of them are race red, though. I guess my next step is going to look at them. I can't drive for another week at least, so it will be fun.

1/9/2024 UPDATE;

Today I have replaced my beloved Bronco with a white two door WildTrak. Thanks to a generous settlement from the insurance company. Thanks, also to Jim Bass Ford in San Angelo TX. They sold me the WildTrak at nearly $4K under sticker.

Soooo sorry to hear....glad you can still text, type...hoping the injury isn't serious.

And rejoice that at least now you can get a replacement. That wasn't true a year ago.

Talk about starting the new year off with a bang. JK, but in all seriousness, so happy to hear that you are still here with your wife and family. Im sure you were attached, but a bronco is always replaceable. Hope you have speedy recovery!

Oof, rough stuff.

Fractured sternum is no joke. Did mine skiing as a kid and got the hiccups a few days after. Hurt like a bastard. Speedy recovery to ya, and hope the insurance company sorts you out well.

Except his profile blurb says he had a Base, which cannot be easily replaced. Kinda wonder how that'll work out.

Man, sorry to hear about that.

damn, that sucks. Hopefully you get enough from insurance to grab another one or most likely the new base, which is basically the big bend. A fractured sternum is no joke. My patients constantly complain of pain. Just have to take it easy for a bit.

He said he was uninjured, which is a testament to side curtain airbags as the entire driver's side of his truck was caved in badly.

I'm glad you're OK. I have a base Sas 2.7 that I paid $38,000 for. I worry about anything happening to it, as well as thinking about how it can't really be replaced... So I feel your frustration. If you can make it to Oregon, My dealer has about fifteen, and they're not marked up.

I'm sorry to hear this, something similar happened to me back in October. All the time and effort we put not only into enjoying our Broncos but also upgrading and researching and personalizing. Doesn't seem fair that someone else's carelessness should deprive us of something we sink so much of ourselves into.

The best advice I can give, advice I wish I had, take some time to process this event. Take a few weeks off work if you can and just rest up. I felt like "this is no big deal" when it happened, but over time I've come to realize it changed me for the rest of my life. Don't let the insurance pressure you into settling too quickly, both on the value of your Bronco and on the medical issues. I have new medical issues related to the crash that didn't show up for months. And consider talking to a lawyer.

I was able to buy a new Bronco at MSRP, and although it's an upgrade in every way, it couldn't replace the one I ordered. It may help to know though that you can replace it if you want.

Yep, best to get a lawyer involved too.
