Updated shock for the recall. See the pic. Unsure if they're any better but here they are. Looks the same but with a fancy branded rubber boot. At minimum they'll last me another 4 years? /Shrug.
Backstory. My reservoir rusted through and fell off down the road, all fluid went up the back of my vehicle. Fun! Once announced I got my 2021 Badlands in to the dealer ASAP. Even then, getting it in one day after it was announced 'Resolved'....replacement shocks are on a national backorder. Dealer put in an 'emergency order' as she called it. Dealer said 1-3 business days for the parts and it was nearly correct. Got them installed yesterday, Wed, and was done by noon. YYMV.

looks to me like that reservoir is welded along its entire length instead of just at the bottom like previous shocks.

So the moral of the story is to wait until the reservoir falls off or you “ help it along” in order to get new shocks instead of the “ cover up the originals “ fix.

Dealer told me mine was not eligible for the recall. That Ford created a kit that basically put a JB Weld down the seams and wrapped the reservoir, the put a wrap around all of that. Showed me the instruction sheet and said they can now order it.

Why didn't you hammer off your old one if you wanted a replacement

Sorry that is not what I meant. I’m good with the fix, just that replacement is not for all…

My 2022 Badlands shocks looked just like that and they were recalled. They have the plastic Bilstein covers on them before the recall was issued. I don’t see the difference?

The thread with the link I posted above is much more informative, if you want to take a look at the difference in the attachment flange.

Probably because any decent tech could tell impact damage as opposed to corrosion.

Knock off and toss away the reservoir. Tiny weld should rust in a week. Bring it in.
Let us know how that goes.
