Hello,

I love the new Bronco and have decided to get one! I will be using it primarily for driving around the city but with the occasional adventure into the wilderness (I love back country camping and being out in the wilderness and sometimes drive on sand roads etc). I am also in Canada so generally lots of snow. As a result I am leaning towards a model more geared for driving on pavement.

My first choice would be the Outer Banks version (two door) but I am just wondering if the upgrades are worth the additional cost over the base model. I am generally pretty utilitarian and want less bells and whistles (less chance of things breaking down). I would probably also get the black colour so I'm not sure if the matching mirrors / fender flares would matter and I don't have strong feelings either way on the tube steps. The larger 18 inch tires and signature LED headlamps would be nice. The heated seats in the mid package would also make a big difference.

Also, do you think it would be worthwhile to upgrade to the 4.27 locking rear axle final drive ratio / rear locking differential?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Cheers

You are forgetting the middle trim, the big bend, which is right between base and outer banks. This might be a happy medium for you. You can go mid package with big bend (cant with base) and add on the things you like such as the signature lighting, without going for all of it that comes standard on the obx!

Hard to beat the value of the Base model. Outer Banks isn't available with a manual transmission. 😜

If you want utilitarian the Base model might be good for you. It doesn't have a lot of tech options. But you still get power windows and locks as well as LED headlights. Make sure to add the auxiliary switches for $195. Hell you could get a Base with the Sasquatch package and still be under the cost of an Outer Banks before adding any options to it.

Have to agree.
Base is Best value.
Take the extras you get for the money, and do the math.
For me, lift and larger tires are the only appeal, and those can be had for $1,500 or less.

Thanks for the quick replies! Big Bend could be a good option.

Take a look at this BB on ebay--should help to cement your decision.

The obx has more sound deadening in it and obviously some nice design touches like the body colored flares, handles and mirrors. I ordered that trim for that very reason albeit I got carried away checking boxes. As for the locker question. Yes yes and yes and I would splurge on the advanced 4wd

I got the base and the thing that really chaps my ass about it is my $23k Maverick has Single Zone Auto Climate control and my Base $42k Bronco won't.

Otherwise - I struggled with BaseSquatch vs. BD (non) and ended on the BaseSquatch because at the end of the day I am buying an off road rig that no level of creature comforts will wash over the compromises it makes to be a niche vehicle.

EDIT: That being said - my buddy got a Badlands Sasquatch and if I could have swung it without my wife making me live inside of it - I Would definitely go Badlands. Now that has more to do with the front facing trail camera and sway bar disco but it definitely was a step up from base.

For the most part though, nobody will be able to tell a difference when we're wheeling them.

Sounds like a Big Bend with mid package and signature lights might be your best option.

And get the factory tow package. Biggest regret, as the factory package has the 7pin and 4pin, which will be nearly impossible to add after the fact. Sure, you can get the Curt hitch, but tapping into the lights is all you can do at that point (4pin plug only). While you may not ever tow a trailer with electric brakes, there's some piece of mind knowing you can!

Quite a few people (including myself) have felt street drivability improved by going to larger diameter tires. For me on my manual trans base model (4.46 gears), going from 30" to 32" rim/tires (OBX takeoffs) made a noticeable difference in drivability. Others mention they like the switch to 33-35" tires. I thought the weight of the tires would make things sluggish, but that's not the case even with the 2.3. I'm doing mostly street driving so I wanted all terrain tires.

The auto trans with 30-31" tires and stock 3.73 gears may be good. Lockers with 4.27, 4.46 or 4.7 gears with larger tires should be a really good combo.

Definitely, order the aux switches they can not be reasonably added later.

Thanks for the tip. I was planning on adding this (y)
