Found out today that the ROAM 66L hard case can be mounted using the semi-perm rigid mounts and it will fit *exactly* lengthwise on the Turn Offroad half rack.

You can also use the adjustable mounting points on the back

I'm thinking about adding one of these half-racks for my 2-door, couple of questions, in case anyone knows:
- Will the BestTop Sunrider work with the half-rack in place? Wondering if the front edge of the rack interferes with the top opening fully or would cause wear of the fabric over time, etc.
- Has anyone ever tried to strap the roof panels to this or any half-rack? I don't have the Sunrider yet, so if I were to skip the Sunrider, wondering if you could strap the roof panels in the Ford carrying bag to the roof, even if at lower speeds? They don't fit in a 2-door with pup in the back seat... :)

Aside from that, I would use the rack for more normal pursuits, like an awning and recovery boards, which I assume is easy to find brackets for. Thanks!

I love the look of this half rack, but I’ve seen other threads about how crap the Bronco MIC hardtops are.
Can any owners reassure me that putting a rack directly on these fragile hardtops hasn’t been an issue? (Cracking)
Thanks

My concern as well, as obviously the extra weight, motion and bumps, etc will put not insignificant new stresses on the mounting points and pre-existing structural weak zones of the MIC top.

Love Mine! No issues, I had my top replaced but it was cracking on the rear between the hinges. I have had it off a couple of times with no issues.

“No issues, but I had my top replaced as it was cracking” seems like a bit of a contradiction. Was the top cracking *before* you put the rack on?

Where EXACTLY are the "pre-existing structural weak zones of the MIC top"? Please provide the FEA. #tool

As I’m guessing your aware if you’ve dived into the MIC top threads here, cracking is most commonly reported around the side windows, especially the rear quarter glass panels — which would be precisely where this rack has its two primary mounting points. From the TURN video it *appears* that the rack is secured to the roof in only two spots, and just ‘sits’ on the roof in the front two locations. But maybe I’m interpreting the video wrong, but I think this is all that you can do with the 2-door roof. That’s why I asked TURN to clarify.

But hey, I like this rack and I’m considering purchasing it. BUT I’d also like to not do anything to damage my MIC top. It seems only common sense (aka physics) that ANY rack on any Bronco adds some amount of stress on the top, simply due to added weight and movement (however slight). One secured in just 2 locations? Maybe more of an issue as the stress is only being distributed to two points.

Trust me, I'm well versed on the cluster F of issues many have experienced with the MIC clamshell. I was simply asking if you had specific info on the "structural weak zones". That would be a great tool to have, especially for those mounting accessories to the roof.

No, sorry if I made it sound like I did. The big interesting question might be: Is there any correlation between racks and cracks on the wide population of vehicles with MIC tops and various different roof racks? It’s likely more an issue of just getting lucky with the MIC top manufacturing batch you happen to get, but like I said, all racks and added weight add *some* amount of stress. I’m just trying to figure out if a rack is worth the added risk of MIC failure, or if the addition of a rack = negligible additional risk. Impossible to really know I guess, but good to hear no reported issues with this one.

My BIGGEST regret in buying the 2D half rack was the guys at Turn Offroad assured me that the optional accessory side panels would be “coming out soon”.

after a number of months, they only released em for the 4door and their own hardtop.

really disappointed that’s no longer an option for me.

makes me think, “Shoulda gone with the TrailRax.”

No, the cracking was no where near the contact points of the rack. I believe it was more from stresses of the rear window opening and closing. My dealership has done all the service on my Bronco, knew of the rack and replaced my top under warranty.

Do any of you know if this rack or any other 2 door half rack has the ability to attach the 2 front panels when they are removed?
