Ford wasn't the only ones who offered tariff induced discounts. People were panicked, the stock market tanked and cars weren't going to move. Moving inventory at a discount was better than not moving it at all. Ford wasn't the outlier here. Everyone was doing it.So let’s see your math how that is a good financial decision.
Tariffs were going to greatly increase costs… and Ford give everyone 4-5,000 off to buy a vehicle
I am fully aware of the leftover inventory, I purchased my '24 WildTrak in January of '25 for what I thought at the time was a pretty good discount, only to find out if I had waited another month or two, I could've saved more. I pulled the trigger when I did because I wanted a Cactus Grey WT and given that both the model and color were not going to be offered in '25, I pulled the trigger when I did. Hindsight being 20/20, I could've waited a bit more.Do either of you two have any idea of what the 24 year end inventories were? Hint very large … not a good sign
The surplus of '24s was the rubber band effect of supply rapidly surpassing the initial imbalance that occurred during the first few years.
That is nothing new. GM experienced it with the 2020 Corvette. Heavy mark-up initially due to demand outweighing supply. People (foolishly IMO) paying the premium, only for the supply to catch up. Dealers were sitting on inventory and offering deep discounts. Then the Z06 was introduced and the same thing happened. I personally know people who paid well over MSRP for a Stingray, who then wanted and purchased a Z06, and struggled having to let their previous very low mile Stingray go for significantly less than the inflated price they paid for it.
Why would you pay close to new car prices for a used car, even with low miles, when you can just buy a new Stingray with a full warranty for under MSRP.
Same goes for the Hummer EV. In the early days I saw one go on Bring a Trailer for $250K. Now you can get one for under MSRP.
The same thing is going to happen with the ZR1 and ZR1X
