I like Nike SFBs, they're super light with a fairly aggressive sole that works well on most terrain, but not too clunky to drive the 7MT with.
I have worn them for work and play for several years now because they offer a lot of boot advantages while wearing more like an athletic shoe.

You're on the right track. A light hiker is suitable for any situation you might find yourself in.

I'm different than most folks anymore, ask my kids. But I always dress to be comfortable in the outdoors in whatever season it is. In the winter I always have a coat and in the summer I always have a jacket with me even if my plans only include being in a climate controlled (auto or building) situation, you never know. I always wear a light hiker anymore because they can handle anything from a picnic on the beach, to the mall to rearranging a rock pile on a trail.

Wolverine work boots. They aren't steel toe, but comfortable and very walkable.
