4x4 Beach Access Finally Open

April 1st kicked off access for us 4x4s on the beaches here on Long Island for fishing. So a few of us locals took a ride out to Gilgo Beach today. For those not from Long Island, we can get permits that allows us to take our 4x4 trucks on the beach for fishing (although some parks you don't need to fish and can go hang out).

Really windy today and a bit cold out (55 degrees or so but with the wind it felt like 40). But still fun to hit the beach this year

How did it do in the sand? And how far did you air down? We have really soft, deep sand here in NC.

How did it do in the sand? And how far did you air down? We have really soft, deep sand here in NC.

Also curious about this too. This will be the first summer I drive on the beach and we have baby powder fine sand however it doesn’t get that deep.

We just got back from OBX and didn’t air down at all…….but we also were driving up in Corolla Beach area and not around Avon/Hatteras point where it is really soft…….but up in back roads/trails of North Corolla the sand was soft in areas and the Bronco just powered on thru…..

It was really bad this year trying to get a DE surf tag. Website crashed, hours of refreshing then only to get sold out. I also heard they changed the rules about what constitutes “fishing”.

At Smith point beach here on LI I’ve taken my stock Tacoma off road out in the deep sand Aired Down to 10 psi and tried it w/o airing down. It’s certainly better airing down.

I was planning on heading to Demo today. But, it’s not gonna be great weather and fish aren’t running yet. Maybe next Sun-Mon.

I need to bring in that bunk S2 Baja too…

I went a decent amount last year and the Bronco just glides in the sand. I was going down to 17 psi. Cruising around the dunes on the north side is super fun too.

I was lucky enough to get my surf tag this year here in Delaware. All 17k sold out in less than four hours. I'm glad they always have an option to buy a two year tag.

To about 18-20PSI from 35PSI. It did great in the sand, no issues

6 of us went out today as well for a class someone was putting on. Little rain but still nice turn out
