Silver Lake Sand Dunes Bronco Takeover 2023

Hadn't seen a thread on this event, so I figured I would start one. I had a blast at Silver Lake sand dunes "Bronco Takeovoer". Was an outstanding turnout! Golden Sands Golf and Bucket Bar did a great job hosting the show! Organizers really did a great job, and the weather cooperated! Was my 1st ever trip to the dunes, and didn't disappoint! Very different from the kind of wheeling I'm used to, but way fun in a "just send it" kinda way! Anybody else there? If you got pics or video feel free to post em here. I got gopro vids that are still uploading, I'll post them here when they are done

My 1st run up "test hill" and the rest of the big dunes, all the way to the outhouses. I filmed other vehicles attempts at the beginning for a while, so skip ahead till I'm rolling if it bores you!
3.14 is where I start rolling.




Here's our parade through town to the Whippity Dip (not sure im typing that right, feel free to correct me)




I came back Sunday morning when there was less traffic and did a video of all the dunes from north to south, starting at the crest of the northernmost one. I thought the camera was on at the very beginning, but I had to start it again when I got to the top of the northernmost dune...still turned out nice

What did you end up doing for a dune flag?

I was there, it was a great time! I think a Toyota club had a meetup there too. It was busy but the weather was perfect

What did you end up doing for a dune flag?

Don't get me started on the dune flag! I learned all I ever wana know about dune flags. I had a leftover flag from the cliffs, and was gonna attach that to my rear antenna mount. I even measured it...10 ft as per requirement...but I never read anywhere that it's gotta go on the front. Major oversight on my part, so I bought one at the offroad rental place right on the corner by the entrance...nice 2 piece one that screws together like a pool cue (so you can take the top part off for cruising around town), and he had a little steel bracket w/2 holes which I put the flag in one hole and bolted the other hole to one of the mod bumper torx bolts...worked good!

EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention the cliffs flag was also illegal because it was a TRIANGLE...flags at the MI dunes MUST BE RECTANGULAR!

2ND EDIT: Please do not take this rant the wrong way...I am not opposed to the way dune flags are mandated at the dunes...after wheeling there, I can clearly see the reasoning behind these rules...they are EXTREMELY helpful in judging the location, speed, and direction of other vehicles on the dunes, especially in the "free scramble" areas...which I found to be extremely fun! I am more mocking my own ignorance in this post!

Definitely a GREAT mix of classic iron and new! Especially 78-79! Love that bodystyle! Was talking to the guy parked a few behind the red one, and his story was he bought his brand new in '79 and lifted it. Then in 1992 MI passed the "lift law" and he didn't wana put it back to stock, so he parked it for 20 years or so. Beautiful truck...somehow I only got video of his tailgate during our parade through town...shoulda got a pic. Maybe a MI resident here can fill us in on whether that law has been repealed, or is simply no longer enforced...these guys didn't seem to know, or care

Gorgeous! Can you share the specifics of your flag setup? Looks like somebody's trail sight mount coupled with . . . ? That's exactly the kind of setup I'd like for my BL.

Thanks. The trail sight mount and flag were both purchased from Jeff’s Bronco Graveyard. I believe it’s stainless steel so I painted it a flat black to blend in with the sight. The flag also comes with a quick disconnect and collapses like a tent pole. Very convenient and not a bad price from others I’ve seen.
