Oh interesting... haven't heard of an owner preferring the off brand windshield before.

But whatever helps to replace the windshield less... that's our motto.
I don't prefer it... window insurance does lol.

Our 2014 Jeep is fine, never had any issue with the 4 CJs I had.
That's because your CJ's can't get enough speed to make a contacting rock break the window! lol

How many ended up upsidedown? My CJ rear axle was always trying to pass the front end.
I was running 1982 f150 rear axle width. I felt like I was going over several times, I was younger and had the nerve to throttle through... I broke lots of stuff....

Waiting for my 4th replacement. (cue the shaming comments)

Sitting at around 93,000 miles on my Badlands that I've had since 2022.

So that's roughly 1 windshield cracked per year (for me) or within every 23,250 miles (as that's my yearly average).

Majority of the miles is interstate driving and that's where it always happens.... and pretty much always when I'm on a long road trip.

I've also noticed that the cracks are always created the same way - a high-velocity impact right at the very outer edge of the glass.

I hear the comments about driving too close to other vehicles and those are valid.

Traffic density on interstates is different from mile marker to mile marker, and state to state, as well as varying speed limits. So if you spend as much time on the highway as I do, there's too many variables for any kind of driving habits to keep you completely safe from an inevitable projectile.

Stop driving so close to other cars.
That's not it. Besides, if you tailgate close enough, the rock can't possibly reach the windshield.

The rock that took out our windshield could be seeing arcing through the air. If anything, had we been closer, it would have sailed over the Bronco. I suppose if we were waaaaaaaaay back, it would eventually have hit the road and bounced enough times that it wouldn't hit the windshield, but then every other car on the road would just keep getting in front of us.

This. I haven’t had a single chip in two Broncos in 65,000 miles.
I drove 10 years in one state and never got a rock chip. 10 years in another state and had multiple hits. I didn't change my driving style, and number of miles driven was about the same.

IMO is the areo most of my cars no chips in 4 years just change at 2-3 because of pitting....Bronco 6 mths and no good I put it to areo, angle and cheap quality glass will be getting the OE late model acoustic windshied and excoshield as soon as the two travelling cracks move too far.

We've seen this debated quite a bit over the years.

Some people are convinced Bronco windshields use weaker glass.

Others think it's mostly the upright windshield angle taking rock impacts head-on.

After owning a Bronco, what's your take?

Have your experiences changed your opinion?
Its all junk ! In my personal opinion FORD advertised name brand upgrades as being premium top notch upgrades but bent us over with name brand junk ! They won't even replace the junk garbage shocks instead they put mickey mouse diapers to hide the worthless reservoirs. It wouldn't surprise me if they sourced out the windshields to some chop shop in a 3rd world country.
