Just from a pure, very simplified, static loading perspective. You can calculate an angle metric for tipping, based on CG and track width. This is only useful for a basic comparison. It does not consider dynamic factors or suspension response, so just a giant static rigid block. But it does serve as a reasonable baseline for how CG and track width play together.

Like @5GENIDN said it is more complicated than this. The suspension dynamics can help or hurt the tipping response based on how everything is setup. However, the basic static geometry still provides the baseline and it is always best to start from a good baseline.

Some plots attached. Notice the added width for the portal rig on 40s makes tipping angle metric similar to a typical build on 37s, but much improved ground clearance. The half portal rig on the plot is what @SierraBronco was trying to achieve with his CG location.

We need to update the chart to see what the final setup is like as we’re 93” wide but only 91” tall.

Attached is a picture comparing our mullet portal rig with 5.5” of portal lift compared to a normal portal rig with 4” of portal lift. Both on 40” tires.

So which of these two kits is the better one?

Rock Krawler

Or.
king

Are there other kits in this price range?

I do not think King has a kit... They have coil overs.... Rock Krawler has a complete kit that includes the coil overs.
Edit... you linked to a Acutune kit with King coil overs.... Pros and cons to each.... I would not say one is "better" than the other.

AND while you are at it you might consider Acutune's Ride "kit".... I love my kings but if I had to do it over I would strongly consider either the Rock Krawler or the Rides.....

Looks like the Rock Krawler dampeners are single valve adjustable like the Kings. The rides are dual stage adjustable... I would want to know more about the spring rates in both. Rock Krawler suggests theirs are multi-rate... I would assume progressive but I would talk to them and find out.

@87-Z28 Does that graph also account for the difference in track width from changing wheel offset to clear larger tires? I'd imagine it's a pretty small gain in stability, but still a few inches.

All of the curves assume a fixed offset of +30mm (oem sas). smaller offset wheels would increase stability and move all of the curves downward slightly. Most of the portal folks would be running oemish offset wheels to keep scrub radius under control. The main point was to show how significantly portals can raise cg and effect stability. Oem curve is just for baseline comparison.

Lots of folks run zero offset wheels and 37s. That is perhaps a better base line. New plot attached.

half portal rig is still crushing it.

Lowering and 40’s is the new lift kit. All the cool kids are doing it.

Sure - yeah that's interesting, and it makes sense given the portals are going to greatly increase track width.

New plot attached.
I'm eyeballing a little over a 1-degree difference in stability angle between the +35mm offset and the 0 offset from your two graphs on stock sas. Very cool to see that calculated out even if the difference is small.

Recognize that this is with a bronco that’s had the front suspension cut apart in order to lower the rig 2”. Just putting on portals actually makes the rig tippier, even with the track width increase.Andy has the plots somewhere explaining it.

Bronco on left has 5.5” of portal lift but has been lowered, using 8” stroke coilovers. Bronco on right has 4” of portal lift and the same length coilovers up front, but with a diff drop. Drastic height difference between the two. Owner of the rig on the right said the lowered rig feels significantly more stable than his when he rode in it on the rubicon.

Only counts if you laser etched 74weld on the modified shock towers up front.
Sir I would prefer quality parts that don’t break 180 miles after installation. Please and thank you
