Yes it was.

Both the Bronco II and the current Bronco Sport are legit Broncos. It’s just a name, and FoMoCo can name any of it’s vehicles whatever they want.

Plus I got a BJ in the back seat of a Bronco II back when I was a younger man. Seeing a Bronco II nowadays always makes me smile. 😎👍
Same reason I have a fondness for Hatchback VWs

If true this is why Ford stock is what it is. We already have the Ranger which is on the same platform lol.

4 door Mustang when it should be a new namplate or revive a legendary one. Why dilute the Mustang brand even more?
Toyota and Lexus have 7 trucks and SUVs on the same TNGA-F platform.

Tundra
Sequoia
Tacoma
4Runner
Land Cruiser
GX
LX

It's extremely expensive creating a new platform while sharing helps with cost reductions and overall efficiency. A Ranger and Bronco owner are two different types of consumers. Which is why Ram is bringing the Dakota back to market while Jeep will continue selling the Gladiator.

I have no dog in this fight (no longer have any need or want for a pickup and can no longer sit down in a mustang with my old back), “But” to me neither a bronco or mustang should have 4 doors…there are lots of other name’s available…ALL 4 door vehicles are utilitarian rather than “enthusiast“…they all make me throw up alittle when I see them…I hope I die (or at least need to stop driving) before my 2 door 2.7 bronco wears out…carry on!
I will respectfully disagree with the bolded part of your quote.

BMW (M3, M5) and Cadillac (V and Blackwings) come in four doors (as do other brands) and they are definitely vehicles that attract enthusiasts.

Yes, my CTS-V is a coupe, but that doesn't mean that the 4-door version and the wagon (from the 2nd gen) are not enthusiast worthy. As for the Mustang and Camaro supposedly having a 4-door coming, Yes, like the Bronco, historically these cars were 2-doors only, but I understand that there is a market for 4-door performance sedans. Leveraging the platform of the existing Mustang for a Mach 4 and the existing platform of the Cadillac performance sedans for the future Camaro does make financial sense.

You can give them different names to avoid the 2 vs 4 door whining we get on this forum.

A 4-door Bronco, Mustang or Camaro, regardless of what you name them is much more of an iteration of the original than what Ford did with the Mach-E (I refuse to call it a Mustang).

Aside from the emblems and Mustang design cues on the front and rear fascias, there is nothing "Mustang" about the Mach-E. It's a 4-door SUV.

I could make the argument that the Bronco Sport is more of a Bronco than the Mach-E is a Mustang.

The Sport is at least an SUV, or I guess more accurately it is a CUV.

At least the 4-door versions of the Bronco along with the future Mach-4 and 4-door Camaro share similar powertrains and platforms with their 2-door versions.

As an Old Single Guy, I don't want Any 4D Vehicles. At the most, an Extra Cab. The reason that I don't have a new truck is that @fomoco doesn't offer one with the options I want in an Extra Cab. If they offer the 700+ HP F150, Tremor or Raptor (both F-Series & Ranger)in an Extra Cab, vis locking it into one cab configuration, IMHO they'd see a lot more of them than they do now.

Ah, now I get it, didn't realize I was dealing with "That Guy".

So if I changed my post to say the compact, 3-door SUV produced by Ford Motor Company from 1984-1990, and much to one internet users disgust, was called the Bronco II, and the Ranger of the same timeframe were twins we would be in agreement?
Interesting that you consider a person speaking facts to be "that guy".

And I never disputed that the Bronco2/Ranger were twins. Simply stated correctly that the Bronco itself was not a twin of nor connected in anyway to the Ranger.

I also have no heartburn with the Bronco 2 at all for what it is. But no matter how you squint it is NOT a Bronco. It was simply a compact and cheaper suv built on the Ranger chassis that was named to cash in on the Bronco's popularity

The concept of a Bronco pickup would have more legitimacy if the AI rendering pic was of a drab, gray, another gray and yet another gray exterior color. The use of Cyber Orange for the rendering is laughable.

Ford to add Bronco pickup as it turns popular vehicles into subbrands

August 19, 2026

Ford plans to expand its lineup with a pickup version of the Bronco SUV, a four-door Mustang and a smaller version of the Transit van.

... In addition to a Bronco hybrid in 2027 and a Bronco-based pickup near the end of the decade, it plans to keep adding new Mustangs, including a four-door variant it showed dealers this summer.
Will the hybrid increase towing capacity?

I doubt it. With the increased weight of an electric motor, inverter, battery and other peripherals, that increases the curb weight within the GCWR equation.
I personally don't like hybrids because you're carrying the weight of an internal combustion drivetrain PLUS the weight of an electric drivetrain (Honda's system is a bit different). It's far more complex, and challenging to service, with two drive systems squeezed into it, plus the higher expense of two systems.
As Mr. Morizo (Akio Toyoda) says, there's far more we can do with the internal combustion engine.
