UPDATE: EARLY ACCESS IS LIVE! 🚨

Hey everyone—thanks for all the questions and the great discussion over the last few pages. It’s clear that a lot of you are ready for a Bronco sound that is finally "all grown up."

As a thank you for following along with our R&D process, we’re doing something special for the forum crew. We haven't pushed the "public" launch yet, and the product is currently hidden on our main site navigation—but you can order yours right now via the early access link below.

Order the Bronco Elite Series Turn Down Axle-Back Early Access

The Details:

  • Shipping: We are currently finalizing the first production batches. Orders placed through this link are expected to ship in the next 7-10 business days.
  • Exclusivity: This link is live specifically for those of you who have been following this development thread.
  • The Sound: This is the "Muffinator" tech you’ve been waiting for. It’s designed for the driver who wants an authoritative presence without the "boy racer" volume or the compromised cabin environment.
If you’ve been waiting for a system that kills the drone but keeps the soul of the 2.3L or 2.7L, this is it. By ordering now, you'll be among the first to get the Elite Series on the road.

We’ll be monitoring the thread for any last-minute questions!

Your passion for performance, all grown up.

— The MRT Team

If you’ve kept your Bronco exhaust stock because you’re afraid of waking up the neighbors, or you’re worried about ruining your highway cruise with an exhausting, compromised cabin environment—we built this specifically for you. You shouldn’t have to choose between a silent factory system and an over-the-top loud aftermarket kit.

Introducing the MRT Elite Series: Performance sound, all grown up.

We’ve spent over a year in development on a brand-new, proprietary muffler design to solve these exact frustrations. There is nothing like this on the market. To be clear, we still love our current MRT Bronco lineup; those systems are awesome and deliver the signature, aggressive, high-volume tone that many enthusiasts crave. But the Elite Series is in a class of its own—designed for the owner looking for the absolute best of both worlds and ultimate refinement.

The Elite Series Difference:

The "Neighbor-Friendly" Growl: A deep, sophisticated note that sounds powerful under load but remains composed and respectful at idle.

Engineered Cabin Comfort: Using proprietary technology developed with ProSound Innovation, we’ve dramatically minimized drone. You get a rewarding performance sound when you want it, without the unwanted resonance that causes highway fatigue.

Ground-Up Engineering: This isn’t a "quiet version" of an old design. This is a 12-month engineering project resulting in an "apples to oranges" comparison to anything else available today.

Hear it for yourself: Check out the clips below to hear how we’ve bridged the gap between a silent stock system and the over-the-top loud aftermarket.

Don't just take our word for it. We put a development system on a long-time MRT customer’s Bronco who has run our aggressive Trail Rated systems in the past. "The Muffinator" was our nickname for the Elite Series during development, and it perfectly captures how this system tackles the problem of unwanted noise. Here is what he observed:

"First and foremost… Drone… there is none! I know there are systems that claim to be drone free but I can honestly say I tried my hardest to induce some drone and I couldn’t. I set the cruise control so the RPMs were anywhere from 1200 to 1800. This is where every system I’ve owned has had some drone, even the MRT Trail Rated system has some. The new internal design of The Muffinator kept the drone at bay!

On the trail, the exhaust sound is subdued but I can now tell my Bronco is running. When I gave it some throttle the exhaust note was a bit more but not overpowering. Wide open the exhaust note has an aggressive performance sound! In the cabin there was no harshness or raspiness. I could listen to this exhaust all day.

One other difference I noticed is on cold start and fast idle. While The Muffinator is noticeably louder than stock, it is not as boomy. I could hear my old system throughout my house—with the new system, that’s not the case. Can barely hear it standing by the door. You don't 'feel' the fast idle in the driveway anymore."

So how does the stock muffler work? To wrap things up, we wanted to show you exactly what we were up against.

The Elite Series: This is for the driver who wants their Bronco to sound authoritative and capable, without the "boy racer" volume or a compromised driving environment.

Your passion for performance, all grown up.

Direct message us or email [email protected] to get on the waiting list to be first notified as soon as the Elite Series is ready to ship.

I wonder how much exhaust drone is due to the after market exhaust systems beating against the "augmented" noise from the sound system?

That’s a great question, and one that comes up often with modern vehicles. In the several years since the Bronco was reintroduced, we’ve done extensive testing across all platforms. While "Engine Sound Enhancement" (ESE) is present, we haven't noticed it being as intrusive as it is on other vehicles, and we definitely haven't been able to tie any specific "drone" back to that system.

The main culprit here is actually the tension between two different worlds:

OEM Standards: They often sacrifice sound and character in return for an ultra-quiet cabin.

Traditional Aftermarket: These systems chase raw performance and volume, often sacrificing the refined cabin environment to get there.

Drone is a physical reality—it's very specific to engine size, body shape, and insulation. It’s almost always pinpointed to a very specific frequency within the RPM spectrum.

Most aftermarket companies try to manufacture a "catch-all" solution that is drone-free 80–90% of the time. The problem is that if you only focus on killing one specific frequency, you change the acoustics for the entire system. You might fix the drone at 1800 RPM, but by cutting that out, you’ve shifted the harmonic dynamics and introduced a new drone somewhere else in the range. It becomes a game of "whack-a-mole" with sound waves.

This is exactly what makes the MRT Elite Series different. Instead of just trying to "muffle" a problem area, we used acoustic engineering to manage the full RPM spectrum. We went through several designs and prototypes to ensure that by solving the drone in that notorious "cruise zone," we weren't compromising the tone or comfort elsewhere.

It’s about elevated exhaust management for the discerning owner who wants that refined experience from idle all the way to redline.

All kool, I don’t want to make a bunch of noise, but is there any actual HP/performance gain??

Assuming you mean the second one about the internals of the stock muffler, the same unit is used for both engines...evidence that points to the relative unimportance of the exhaust after the turbo as far as far as power goes.

Outside of theory, such a question would have to be answered with measurements - in the very least an apples to apples (i.e. same vehicle, same gas, same dyno, no other changes besides device under test, etc.) dyno pull comparison.

Have you ever seen any aftermarket supplier publish such results, beside the tuning companies (only ones that come to my mind)?

That said it would be wonderful if MRT did!!

I think there are 2 different mufflers for the 2.3 vs the 2.7. The 2.3 is a smaller case and the tailpipe is longer and the tailpipe hanger is in a different location. Here is a picture of the inside that someone else posted on the board previously.

Edit: it appears this is the 2.7 muffler below which has the flap valve and the 2.3 muffler in their video does not have that.

Someone else cut open a 2.3 and posted pics of it and it has a spring loaded valve which this one doesn't show in the video. So I wonder if this video is a Jeep muffler or did Ford change the 2.3 muffler.

Here's the 2.3 muffler someone else posted.

Well shucks, this is different than what I've read here before but you could very well be right.

I have a 2.3 and I have my stock muffler sitting in my garage collecting dust... Perhaps I should cut it open just for another data point.

Does this improve clearance over stock?
I've been looking for a better-tucked muffler but stock is more than loud enough already.
Hope you can post a manual video soon. Can't really tell how this sounds on the throttle when your 10-speed gear hunter shifts before 3000rpm.

Seems like the “noticeable” exhaust gains on these engines are made with better downpipes. We did downpipes on my bronco simply because everything was apart when replacing the turbos and might as well to maximize turbo performance. Changing the muffler was only done because the exhaust might get crushed with the new suspension. Now it’s dumped in front of the axle with a universal Magnaflow.
