For me, a few stand out. Upgrading tires instantly improves traction and handling, especially on sand, dirt, or rocky trails. A suspension lift gives more ground clearance for rocks and uneven terrain. Good lights make a big difference on night runs or low visibility trails. Recovery gear like tow straps, a winch, or traction boards might not be flashy, but they can really save you when things go wrong.

Whether you’re new or experienced, I’m curious. What mods do you think give the most value? Any lesser-known upgrades that turned out to be super useful?

Share your thoughts in the comments. I’d love to see what everyone’s doing and maybe pick up a few ideas for my own rig.

No matter what vehicle I’m in, when we go out I have tow straps, kinetic straps, shackles, and tree savers. Also straps of various sizes. You could always add more but those are so basic and a must have when you get stuck or for any situation where you could use them (which is a lot) Also, if you can’t afford a winch, grab a properly rated come along. Will get you out in a pinch.

For me -

Off roading upgrades: A winch, tie rod braces, KO3's, rear shock skid plates, Rotopax gas and water cans, recovery kit, air compressor, half rack, traction boards

Other upgrades: Hot Head liners, ditch lights, electric steps (RC with steps replaced with SAS rock sliders)

Future upgrades: small lift, more skid plates

Eibach Pro Truck 2.0 coilovers, SPC upper control arms and RC tie rods and adjustable rear trac bar. Great upgrades for both on & offroad driving.

The right tires for YOUR trails and skid plates - they have saved my bronco all kinds of damage.

Best bang for my buck... hmm

Honestly, probably my OnX subscription. So many old logging and mining trails around here I'd get so lost with out a good map - or more likely, just be gunshy of going down unmarked trails. NFS does put out free paper maps, but going up around the mountains it's sometimes hard to keep your bearings, and it's hard to argue with GPS precision.

For me it was the DD and Rigid lights. Light up the ditches and road so I don't hit a deer, again.

I do like my FSR Aspen Lite RTT, Setpower fridge, and Bluetti AC180.

Edit: Have to add, my DIY cargo trailer for camping gear and RTT on top of it.

No matter what expensive hardware you buy, it never makes up for a lack of skill! Everyone can always learn more. Throw a few bucks into a quality off road school and mod your own abilities. Money well spent.

For someone that starts his list with tires, I have to say you need some bigger tires 😆.

Most useful and noticeable for my Bronco has been the Fox shocks.
The winch has been super handy, not only for getting unstuck with ease but also moving trees off trails and doing work around my property.
Bigger tires are next and a few mods to allow that to happen, watching for a sale to come sooner than later hopefully.
