For those who have done audio upgrades to the bronco I'm looking at installing an enclosure that will be on my swinging gate.
the enclosure gives me the option of either 1 12" or 2 10"

They will both be running off 1 amp with the same amount of power

In your own setups would you lean toward the 2 10's or 1 12?

Thanks!

Agree with above. I've run both 10" and 12" subs over many years. My preference is a 12" sub in a sealed enclosure. Goes deeper than a 10" and the sealed enclosure keeps it from being boomy. Also depends on your music preferences. Jazz and rock would do fine with a 10", but if you're leaning towards bass heavy hip hop and dance music, then definitely go with a 12".

I have a 12" Infinity sub paired with an Alpine 500W RMS mono amp in my 4Runner, planning on moving it to my Bronco once I have the time to redo the whole sound system. It's loud enough to bother the neighbors across the street.

I'm running a custom ported enclosure with 2 10"s in it (Skar)...

you'll get more volume from a single 12" than dual 10"s. You get more accuracy and less distortion with two 10's.

you need more amp to drive the 10's to the same volume as a single 12".

So, if your usually moderate with the volume, but want good, solid, accurate punch, go with the 10's, If you want higher volume, go with the 12.

you can look at the speaker area of most speakers on their spec sheets but two 10s (= ~one14") should be significantly more surface area than a single 12. but excursion comes into play here too. usually, it is recommended to buy one nice sub as opposed to two "ok" ones. but how things fit in your space will come into play here too.
