Sounds like a lifter ticking. That's the same sound my Rubicon makes. But not as loud. and it goes away when the rpms are up.

Look down if you can is something hitting the fan on the front maybe a uncut zip tie or something. Did it just start doing this.

Sounds like the normal sound from high pressure direct injection engines. They're especially noisy when cold and the hood is open.

Solution, close the hood and drive on.

The click on rev sounds like a solenoid of some type. I haven't poked around underhood to see how the throttle body operates

Now that make me question selling FJ Cruiser for the Bronco.
The same way the Titanic makes me avoid all maritime activities and the Hindenberg prevents me from using air travel.

Extra carefulling must be used when taking single events, and un-diagnosed issues as altruistic guidance for your life. It did work for the Alamo, however. That's how New Mexico was discovered by Jay-Z.


Anyway, being perturbed by 2022 America aside, it's sounding RPM dependent. A foreign object hitting the fan, belt or a moving component is certainly your first place to start on a new engine that you can't tell your elbow from your bumhole on. Sounds like too much chatter to be valvetrain unless you've got flat tapped valves and jumping below government certification of lubricant.

I would caution that if you just recently refilled the windshield wiper fluid and/or blinker fluid, make sure you're using the right hole for your fluids. Things go south right quick if you get the wrong thing in the wrong hole!

My 2.3 makes kind of similar tapping when it’s cold. Doesn’t increase much with rpm’s and comes and goes depending on what gear it’s in until the temp gauge is at 3 or so bars. With what others have said about the 2.3 sounding like a tractor engine I’ve just gotten used to it. Think it’s just a solenoid related to direct injection but curious to see what other 2.3 owners say.
