I think lockers are misunderstood. 4x4 Vehicles with open differentials are really only 2 wheel drive one wheel in the back spins and one wheel in the front spins. Even with fancy traction controls and one wheel is not touching the ground and or slipping on loose terrain now you are down to one wheel drive. Granted if you never leave pavement then lockers are not needed but if you go off road a rear locker is minimum for anything with mud snow or loose dirt.
I agree with you. When I started out on this journey with my bronco. I figured I wouldnā€™t need the lockers. And I still think that most people arenā€™t going to go places tough enough to need them. (But after I started going out more and doing more trails, and I do a lot of my driving alone.) I soon realized that having them to help in some situations is like having a security blanket. šŸ˜‚. So I now have a heritage edition on order to replace this one.

I disagree. I've done plenty without lockers in mine.

It amazes me how many people think they *need* lockers. When I went to the Austin off-roadeo, we only used the lockers 2 times. You simply don't need them if you have the right line and right tires.

Obviously some people will get value of out them, but I'd wager 90% of the people with lockers will never go on trails tough enough to warrant them.
What lockers do is give you the option to not use so much skinny pedal to get the job done, I love modern lockers vs. the old type. IMO it saves equipment. That being said I'll be pushing stock limits till the power train warranty is gone then she gets 38s and lower gears.

Another comment on lockers, when this became a factory option I jumped on it. No better time to get them.
Iā€™ve got a small front wheel assist tractor with a rear locker, there are many times when Iā€™m hung up with one front and one rear tire off the ground and Iā€™m not going anywhere. Engage the rear locker and away I go. When I saw front and rear lockers available for the Bronco I was all in.

With modern traction and brake control systems the computer does an excellent job of stopping the wheel thatā€™s spinning so the other one will in low traction areas. Itā€™s not perfect but itā€™s not like the one wheel wonders of the past. I took my Base with stock wheels and tires through trails with 10ā€ or more of snow a couple weeks ago in ā€œSandā€ mode and I did perfectly fine.

That is an outstanding ā€œHeritageā€ Bronco. That fender badge is the best!

Been a while sense I have posted. I am lucky my wife has to work in Moab once a month. Today I got to take my 2 door base out on Fins and things for the first time. Made the whole loop by myself. Did not see one other vehicle the entire time. My build is a base w/automatic. 2inch level kit. With 285/70/17. No lockers. I was amazed at how well it performed. Only one spot where I wasnā€™t sure if I was going to make it. But with a little fudging and just the right line it made it up. Super fun trail.

Great rig! Very cool build!
You're running a Rough Country 2" lift correct?
Have you had any ride issues or stress to suspension system? I have same lift kit in my garage and am on the fence about installing. Thanks for any input. :)

No issues at all. It has been a fantastic lift. Rides just like the stock suspension. But sits taller

Good to hear. I'm always concerned about stressing the suspension, re bushings, tie rods, or whatever.

I'm running 33.25 Mickey Thompsons on 17x8" American Racing wheels. I think the additional lift will improve the look and obviously clearance. Thanks for the quick reply!

Great pictures and great looking rig.
I absolutely love that trail, done it many times.
As far as lockers if you don't need them you haven't been on a challenging enough trail.

Looking good! You have done all the white paint mods that I wanted to do some day. But I have to wait for a 4-door white modular hard top in the aftermarket. Iā€™ll be studying how you did that grille ā€” nice detail work there, masking the outer edges to look true to the vintage look.
