This works. Very popular upgrade. There are several companies that make that same size tire, too (Bridgestone, General, etc.) if you want to go a different route.

That's a negative. The Base wheel is too narrow. 285/75R16 requires a 7.5" rim minimum and the Base wheel is a 7" rim.

Biggest you can do is 265/75R16 or 275/70R16. They are roughly the same size. The first one is a little narrower but larger in diameter... the latter is a little wider but smaller in diameter.

thank you for this. didn’t realize the steelie was a 7” wide wheel. probably go with the 265/75/16. cheers.

Uh, I'm not sure where the "negative" comes from . . . just do a search on this forum and there are dozens of folks posting this very size with base steel (me included).

Oh you can mount it for sure, but it is outside the manufacturer's specification. And when you are talking about the potential for tires to pop off the rim when traveling at 75 MPH down the highway because you hit a pot hole... I'm personally not willing to take that risk.

You do you obviously, I'm not going to say that you outright can't do something. But I personally wouldn't tell someone that "it works" when it is outside the manufacturer's specification unless I was also very clear that it was outside the design specs.

Manufacturers specification is 7.50" - 9.00" rim. The Base wheel has a 7.00" rim.

Legitimate point . . . but let's think about how many owners are removing the factory-installed crash bars to mount 35" or larger tires. Sacrificing safety for aesthetics seems to be a trend.

Yes, I'd always consider the manufacturer specs as well as the recommendation of the tire shop that's handling the install.

They fit and look awesome. Had mine aired down to 18 psi multiple times and do 70+ mph to work 5 days a week. Great upgrade!
