Tinted Windshield getting replaced after only 3 weeks. Tint will cost me $250 to redo. Thinking of putting Exoshield on the exterior of the windscreen this time around. $600. I have State Farm Insurance and I thought it might be a hassle getting factory glass. They gave me a list of their preferred installer but said factory glass would need to be approved by SF. I said the rigs 3 weeks old and factory glass is going in one way or another. I called American Glass in Scottsdale and said bring it in 3 days. I said again I want factory glass if that is going to be a problem call me. I read where it can take a month to get it so I was worried of what they could get so fast. Dropped it off this morning. Factory glass and then need to reprogram the lane detection stuff right after.
Fixing to replace my 2nd windshield but I have 52k on it putting the protective film on this time got one being behind a big truck the other meeting a big rv on my trip out to Moab it happens but I make payments to drive it and that’s what I will do 😂😂

Are you guys not getting your chips fixed and just letting them crack and shatter?? Ive got quite a few chips and cracks that I just get repaired for cheap and am still on the original windshield. There are glass chip repair guys EVERYWHERE and I have always been able to get a chip fixed in <6 hours.

Seems like a bit of negligence on guys going through multiple windshields by not getting chips and cracks fixed promptly when they occur.

*My state doen't require glass coverage so its not offered by Statefarm. Rather be out 20$ per chip than 1k for a windshield.

I reckon some can't be fixed but that's a great point

With a quality glass repair guy just about anything can be fixed to the point it is very very difficult to locate. My glass guy has done a couple of +24" long cracks on one of my other vehicles from spots I left sitting for too long. I can't even find the cracks any more.

Modern equipment and resins have come a long way even in the last few years.

It is much easier, cheaper, faster, and less risk to tearing up the pillars.

I had mine for 4 days before I needed to replace the windshield. Funny enough the factory windshield was cheaper that the aftermarket one and it was available faster than the aftermarket.

I heard about month long waits for Bronco Glass. My shop was like bring it in tomorrow and Insurance didn't balk at factory glass so pricing must be good.

What is the Exoshield?
I looked into when the truck arrived, new.

Picture it as PPF for your windshield. It helps with reduce the impact to the glass.

Due the the cost and insurance will not replace when the windshield is cracked.

I just made sure I had windshield replacement on my auto policy.

Factory glass seems soft, maybe experiment with aftermarket 🤷‍♂️

That's interesting. I was always told after X inches of crack(s), replacement is the only option.

Funny you mention this....

While I have no FHE with Bronco glass, I'm well versed in windshield replacement having owned five Wranglers. I think my last JK went through three or four, and I went aftermarket with the last one. It got pinged several times and never broke, unlike the OEM glass.

I had a Previous Job working in Glass Gauging for automotive Glass and most of the US Glass all come from the same factories the biggest difference in in the final finish and inspection. OEM Glass is optically inspected before they screen the Paint on inside for Final Finish. I was told by engineers at the facility that the OEM Glass had a Higher Spec for Clarity and failed glass was then screened as an Aftermarket Replacement. That the Clarity Spec for that Glass was very Loose. So the Physical Glass is usually exactly the same but from Lot to Lot the Raw Glass can vary and the Strength can also vary but they are all within Spec.

The biggest issue is the Flat Glass of the Bronco and Jeep just don't do well with Rock Strikes. The Slight Curve of a most windshields allows for a Deflecting Blow where the Flat of the Jeep and Bronco are more of an Impact Blow.

And Now I get ready to Call my Insurance Company and Start the Paperwork for a Replacement Windshield the Second large Rock Strike has send a 8in Crack across my Windshield I made it a year before needing a new windshield I got the first crack when it was weeks old

This is my worst fear. So much so that I don't want to drive on any highways

I put the deflector on the front of the car, the one ford sells. I hope it helps.
and it happened. Last Thursday on my way to VT. Our 6th ski trip. Right above the wiper. Has to be replaced. Called FORD dealer local, they were less than helpful, so going through safelight through USAA which doesn't cost anything but very scared they are going to destroy my car.

Anyone use safelight and have tips?
