32 Spline CV Grease Leak

the 32/35 spline spicers are BIGGER EVERYWHERE....bigger bell, bigger star, bigger shaft and even biggger balls!!! because the shaft is necked down, there is more angle available.

Yup, definitely bigger and better. Also way more expensive to carry spares of. I’d have to spend $2300ish for a set of spares vs $450 now. Call me cautious but I always carry spare CV’s for IFS, even if they are upgraded.

I kept going back and forth on whether spares will be necessary or not, especially with the portals and no suspension lift. Portals take a lot of stress off of them and no lift prevents them from being tested to the limits of their articulation. Ended up deciding that if we do break one we have front and rear winches so we’ll pull it and limp out. I guess that’s the long way of saying I’ll be surprised if we break them.

Well my thoughts are if I do break one of these axles, I was being pretty stupid that day . Your driving style & maintenance will have a lot to play into it. But in the event thereof, I would pull the broken axle, seal it up and run 3 wheel drive and the winch to limp out. It's said that the hub/ unit bearings do not need the stub & will stay together so that is a plus. $.02

Got it filled back up with plenty of grease and new clamps installed. Also-there is a lip on the outside of the bell. I’m feeling like the original clamp may have been installed loosely as I was able to move it by hand. This new one was installed with a wrench operated clamp vs pliers (no idea what they use at spicer but the latter would certainly be more efficient) and I’m not able to move it. Fingers crossed!

Based on all the inquiries asking about this (exactly zero) it was time for an update:

Replacement boot is looking good and holding up well. The driver side recently did the same thing, but that was while the bronco was sitting on jack stands and the suspension was drooped out. Put a hair dryer on it and got the boot back to normal. Peculiar that it happened but it seems good to go.

No other issues with this setup.
