I’ve frankly been torn about upgrading to the 32 spline for this very reason. If I run into any issues, replacing the axles is very expensive and waiting for a warranty is time consuming. I can carry spare stock axles with me and do. But these suckers are over 2k!

Spares certainly aren’t cheap and as you’re pointing out-the factory axles are now useless as spares. The primary reason I went with the 32 spline upgrade was to get a stronger intermediate shaft, as the portals will take a lot of stress off of everything. Getting more articulation without worry was more of a secondary benefit. I was really hoping these would be worry free, but if something is made by humans there’s always that possibility of error.

@SierraBronco I've got the 32 spline FDU and no problems so far. I'll be watching to see what the out come is best of luck.

Yep, this along with the cast iron tube & stronger diff for me (more splines to carry the load but gears are the same) 🤠

Went to change the break in oil on the diff and start tearing everything else apart and noticed all kinds of grease has been leaking from the passenger side CV axle. And the boot almost looks like it has a vacuum on it-I cannot pull those creases out. I don’t see any holes but it’s kinda hard to get to. This is after maybe 300 miles and no wheeling. Northridge is getting with Dana at the moment to see if this is a warranty issue or not but I thought I’d check with the group to get some feedback on what is happening.

do you have swaybar removed? several of us had to change the nut and add a spacer on swaybar end link for clearance

I was able to get everything straightened out with it out of the vehicle, but it wants to stay in the collapsed position. The grease appears to be pushed out of the boot. There’s no excessive play or noise and it still feels brand new. Which makes sense seems how it only has a couple hundred miles on it 😂

Northridge is being awesome on customer service, frequently letting me know they’re still waiting on Dana for a warranty decision. I think I’m going to go ahead and cut this off to install the portals instead of waiting for what might be months and then see what kind of deal @Northridge4x4 might be willing to work out on a replacement so I can have a spare if this fails prematurely.

Update-Dana said this is due to temperature changes and is sending a new boot and clamps. Is that a thing? Other side is fine. All the stock boots are fine 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

At least you are getting some parts, although it's a mess to have to clean that up and replace the boot. Looks like @akturbo was spot on.

you must have some really strange temperature distributions in your garage. Be careful walking around in there you may get burnt in the wrong spot. 😂

hopefully it is just a quality control issue and that was one bad boot.

the thing was probably shipped through Colorado at 10,000 ft and had near zero pressure, then now down at sea level the outside pressure is greater than inside?

the reality is someone sealed the boot in a collapsed position, now when it's pulled out to drive height position, It creates a vacuum.

🤷🏼‍♂️

It didn’t have these creases when initially delivered and the other side is fine. I like the idea of one side of the garage fluctuating in temperature more than the other side 😉

the 32/35 spline spicers are BIGGER EVERYWHERE....bigger bell, bigger star, bigger shaft and even biggger balls!!!😆 because the shaft is necked down, there is more angle available.

No lies detected. They’re definitely chonky bois! Though “bigger everywhere” is technically inaccurate as the stub shafts are the same just a little shorter and uses a 32mm nut instead of 35mm. Not that it matters, especially with portals.
