It really seems as if my badlands could go anywhere. Until mud and water killed my alternator. Now I’m afraid to go out until I can get a relocation kit. I don’t want to have to buy an alternator every time I go out. This problem will keep a lot of people of the trails.

Should be replaced under Warranty, there is a Ford TSB covering it, there is a shroud specifically to cover the alternator to keep it from getting fried. Do a quick search and you'll find a whole thread on it, including the TSB number.

The 2.3 is higher, but by what? A couple inches.

Unless the 2.3 is a totally different built/designed alternator, that's not going to be your saving grace.

Precisely, the alternator on the 2.3 is at the bottom of the engine, well below the "safe fording depth".

Currently in my third alternator rotation. Have the original and a second to swap in these situations

1st original alternator original cover
2nd new alternator installed with revised cover
3rd original alternator cleaned (currently installed and working)

See picture this had the revised cover…

I want an Australian sealed alternator for the Bronco…..
