Any theories on why BASE 4-DR has automatic as standard?

I know the major price difference explains how they pay for it, but just wondering why manual for a four door base isn’t available.

I think the options and pricing are very carefully considered around the four door Base to bump people up to Big Bend or over to Sport.

Four Door Base: $33,200
Two Door Big Bend: $33,385
Sport Badlands (no Badlands package): $32,660

With four door Base you’re already in mid-$30s so why not bump up to the nicer Big Bend? Or do you really need four doors but things starting to get too pricey? You can get the well-equipped Sport Badlands for less.

Because the Base 2door is selling at a price point without regard to earning a margin desirable for ROI. By adding a Auto to 4Dr or other options on 2Dr they at least will bump up the margin dollars some on all other other Base Broncos.

Tiny tires + final drive ratio on the manual + the weight of the 4 door = no bueno gas mileage

they didn't pre-order enough manual transmissions to meet the anticipated demand :)

They probably expected an insanely low take rate for the 4-door Base stick and chose not to even offer it.
Jeep Wrangler 4D base stick shift sales are nearly non-existent.

People usually add on the auto and a hard top.

Base model buyers are price sensitive.
Ford undercuts Jeep $1900 by making the auto standard on the 4D.

Ford also beats out the 2D Base Wrangler. The buyers are usually more performance oriented and want a stick, by making the hard top standard and 1/2 doors built in.
Jeep doesn't even offer 1/2 doors anymore.
The hard top is $1600 on the base Wrangler, IIRC.

Great answer, love when someone does the research.

Thanks for the complement.
But honestly, I'm just an online JK Wrangler owner, so these things are known over on the Jeep Forums.

I'm looking at replacing the JK with a Bronco at the end of my Jeep's warranty period because I'm less than impressed with the new JL's reliability and pricing VS value.

Ford seems to want my business.

The attitude at Jeep seems to be " FU!!! PAY ME!" ( the same as the movie: Goodfellas)

They have corrected this on the website. See attached screenshots. 4DR Base now has manual transmission standard, so is no longer the good deal I thought it was. :(
