Hi! I have a 4DR Badlands SAS and the backup camera is always filthy. I've driven long enough to know how to use mirrors like a luddite, but I find it frustrating. On my old VW GTI, the backup camera was hidden in the VW emblem on the trunk and when I'd put it in reverse, the emblem would tilt and reveal the camera. This had the practical upshot of keeping the camera clean at all times. I'm wondering if anyone here knows of an aftermarket part or has engineered some solution to do something similar: hiding the camera until it's needed.

My 'engineered' solution is to end up with a dirty fingertip whenever this happens.

If you find a way to keep the Arizona trail dust off of it, I'd be in!

Often wondered why front cam washer is so obvious to manufacturers but not a rear cam washer hose.

I was thinking about this, this morning and wondering why they don't mount the cameras high inside the rear windows in the path of the rear wiper.

I spend alot of time without a rear window. Also looking through the tint would be very difficult at night for a camera.

What @GreyZ said. And I'd add: "no visibility of the hitch"

Which is another common use for the backup camera.

Simple.
You forget about softtop. No rear wiper.
And people may go topless with hardtop.

My rear dash cam has no issues with the tint so I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for a factory back up camera. And as for your back window preferences, it would only be my preference but the camera would be clean all the time.

You have no visibility of the hitch now unless you take the spare off.

Good point. Totally forgot I've got a hitch extender so that I can open the rear glass.

These Broncos are designed where you pretty much gotta swing that tailgate ALL THE WAY OPEN to pull the rear glass up. And if the trailer is too close....I couldn't open the gate enough.

So yeah, you're right. If you have an average length stinger....it is tucked up under the spare.

I'm thinking a coozie and a long string so you can yank it off.
