Best performing radar and laser combo is Valentine V1 Gen2 Radar combined with AL Priority Laser. Much easier install with very good performance still is Escort Redline 360C combined with their wireless ZW5 laser system. You can add their dashcam and share same power source as radar detector if you need that as well. NOTE the Escort Dashcam does work with the Valentine detector if you want to go that route.

Cannonball I ran Valentine G2, Escort Redline and ZW5 laser system. The Valentine and Redline performance was comparable.

There are many sites that test radar detectors using scientific methods. Rather than reading them, you are asking people on a forum which is the best??.

If I ever need a heart transplant, I’ll be sure to ask people on a forum for advice rather than doing my own research.
Well thats a very extreme analogy but even so, if you want a heart transplant, won't you ask peoples opinions on which doctor to use or which hospital is best? or do you just read about the scientific aspects?

Customer opinions are highly valued for a reason. Besides, how do you know the people who do and present these tests are not paid to write the articles on the radar detectors?

I used a Valentine V1 for 5 years. The V1 Gen2 is out now. There are states where they are illegal. And the reality is I stopped using the V1, and sold it to someone because it's easier just to not be speeding.

Asking for a friend - is Dr. Nick a good doctor for a heart transplant?

I use a Radenso DS1 in all three of our vehicles. The DS1 has very good range and is pretty good with false alarms. I ran Escort product for many years, then went to Radenso in ~2018. I also run with Waze on the screen in my Bronco and Silverado with wireless CarPlay (connects automatically).

I have read plenty of good things about the Valentine units, but I don’t want to have to run something on my phone to make them perform at their best.

Short of actual jammers, nothing is really effective on a determined officer with laser.

The V1 with JBV1 is like having an electronic warfare suite. I usually use my phone for it, because I have a cheap tablet for entertainment... But a small 8" tablet with GPS would be really slick, because you don't need a phone to use JBV1, but you do need GPS. The current tablet uses the wifi Hotspot in my Bronco.

Uniden R7/R8. F/R detection and according to the latest unbiased testing, they have updatable filtering for the most current frequency lists. (cruise control radar and blind spot radar) Range is phenomenal. They are very sensitive to momentary burst. Basically a patrolman that is actively 'gunning' traffic. Not just sitting there with the radar on and filling out paperwork. If your area has them, the Unidens have Speed Camera detection. HUGE plus! Unidens have GPS built in, so you're able to mute areas like school zones or those random speed signs that get moved into areas for data gathering. Valentine does not have GPS built in and you have to tie your V1/V2 to your phone to get the most out of it. That, to me, makes the V1/V2 a clunky solution.

Yeah, laser is pretty much a pre-court notice: Hey pal, you're getting a ticket! ........ BUT- a laser is a line of sight kind of thing that doesn't work in the rain or even patchy fog. High humidity can screw with it too.

Thankfully, laser is relatively uncommon in my area, but frequently crowd reported.

Even if you don't have a V1, I highly recommend trying JBV1 in standalone mode. It used to be better when it reported other users speeds, because you could see where people were slowing down. The crowd sourced alerts, aircraft detection, and even tracker detection are features that most other radar detectors just can't emulate. You can even see weather radar updates on the screen (which is really useful in the Texas Hill Country for seeing storm fronts/possible hail).

We had a LOT of tech. The Valentine was dash mounted, not ideal but temporary install...

I run a Escort Redline 360c in my vet and Bronco. I really do not need it for the Bronco.
