Damn rough break, extra ouch leaving the door open. I’ve had a driveway that I could just not stick to one day, in my ranger with Michelin tires that had good snow traction. Sometimes the ice is just to slick no matter the tires.
Luckily it would not hold long enough to jump out so I ended up parking down in the street.
I gotta say this to my Everglades friend. See what you do in icy hill conditions is you use the winch, go find said tree or said support beam of said house. You then tie it to said support……… then you pull the emergency brake and call it a day and go inside for hot cocoa 😂.

I leave my door ajar like that far too often in order to avoid the double honk. One of these days I’ll get around to using the ForScan.
The best ever Bronco mod!

What is this ice of which you speak? The only ice I ever see is in my gun and tonic. 🙃

Hate to hear it 🙁

I have found over the years that nothing gets me into trouble faster than being in in a hurry. Hope the sting of repair isn't too crazy for you.

Oh man, that is rough, I've had a few driveways in my life that I couldn't get up because of ice but never had a vehicle slide down thankfully.
Funny, when I read the title I thought you were worried about being deported 😁
lol. That’s what I first thought— just like the ICE creamed man! Sorry for the loss though…..

Left home to run an errand, half-way there I realized I forgot an important document I needed. Turn around and drive back home. I'm in a hurry so I park in front of the garage, put it in park, hop out (leaving drivers door open) run into house, grab document, run back outside and what do I see....

The driveway in front of my garage is quite steep and this time of year, quite icy. I see my beautiful Bronco sliding backward down the driveway on the ice. Slides into the fence. Bends drivers door forward. Crashes THROUGH the fence, still sliding, finally comes to rest against bottom fence post.

I was now quite late for my appointment so crawled in through the passenger door, drove it out of the fence, parked it in the shop, did a quick assessment before hopping in the Gladiator and heading out again.

What is known so far is LH rear taillight is smashed. Driver door won't close. It's catching on the front fender and door no longer lines up with the door opening at the latch side.

I'll go out there over the weekend and do a more thorough assessment of damage but from what I saw today - thinking this might be beyond my "body man" skills. Gonna have to be an insurance claim.

So - learn from my pain, my brothers and sisters. Beware parking on icy hills.

(BTW - this has never happened in any other vehicle in all the years I've lived here - I suspect these 37" tires I added over the summer are not so bueno on sticking to ice)

Pics of damage to follow...
What 37’s were you running?

Bummer. Been there done that. In a previous home I had a steep driveway like that. We had an ice storm one winter. I parked in front of the garage to get something from the house and suddenly I heard honking from outside. Looked out the window and my Audi had slid down the driveway and out into the street stopped broad side in the road blocking traffic. I ran out and drove it back into the driveway and stopped while the garage door opened so I could park inside this time. While parked the car started sliding backwards down the driveway again with me inside and my foot on the brake. All in slow motion by the way. Same damn thing. This time I parked on the street and walked up. Luckily no damage either time as the car stopped when it slid up against the curb across the street each time.

I think this has more to do with the tires than the vehicle. My daughter couldnt get into our garage with her mud terrains and JL and I had no issues with my Bronco and the goodyear MTs. Agreed, beware of ice...

Funny story. On a separate note but a similar incident I had an old 1972 Chevy Luv pickup start to roll out of the garage toward my steep driveway that faced the next door neighbors yard down hill. I was working on an old POS rusted out Chevy Luv because it was idling rough. The emergency brake was broken. Without thinking I got out of the running truck, opened the hood and started fiddling with the carburetor. As I'm concentrating on the carburetor I'm also leaning against the front grill. I don't immediately notice the car start to slowly roll away from me. Very slowly an inch at a time. Before I know it the truck starts to roll a little faster. Oh sh_t! The drivers door is wide open and I'm hanging onto the front bumper trying to stop it from rolling out of the garage door. My daughter who was 3 or 4 years old at the time was playing in the garage. She runs over grabs onto the bumper with me and says, "I'll help you daddy!" The truck picks up speed with my daughter and I with our feet sliding across the floor rolling toward the open garage door. All I can think of is the truck rolling down the driveway, though the hedges and into the neighbors in ground pool. Luckily the open drivers door slams into the wall and gets caught on the door tracks and stops the truck. My little girl looks at me and says, "Yeah we did it!" I started laughing until I had tears in my eyes. Bent the truck door almost 180 degrees forward against the front fender. 😂

Not my truck but same color and a LOT more rust.

That was back in 1988 before cell phones😜.
Trust me no one would ever admit they owned a Chevy Luv pickup if they weren't expecting to be the butt of a joke:crackup:. The rust was so bad the guy I got it from sold it to me for $200. The floor was so gone it had a metal license plate covering the hole in the floor and that was held down with sheet metal screws.

Similar situation:
My daughter, while on her way to work, called and said she had slid off the road and hit a tree.
She said she was fine but her 2000 Mustang was pretty bad.
So I hop in my 2002 SportTrak and head that way.
I get to where she was at and find a section of black ice over a hill.
This was on a remote country road and some overhanging trees had kept the moisture from evaporating.
Anyway I call the cops to make an accident report and I drive the SportTrak to the top of the hill and put my 4-ways on to warn anyone coming over the hill.
My daughter grabs my arm and points.
The Sport Trak is sliding backwards down the hill.
Luckily it stopped when it hit the grass/gravel shoulder with no damage.
