Out of curiosity how did you know the shocks were done? Besides visually looking terrible, does the ride start to get bumpy, etc?
Are you ignoring the obvious of the missing reservoir?

Is the issue mainly related to corrosion between the tubes- which would be a trapped area for salt to be retained, and they fell apart........or failure of the shock of the shock itself?
Look at the two photos. The black rubber thing that says Bilstein is a reservoir. Where that hole is was where the reservoir was attached. I actually wonder if the method used to place the reservoir on the shock body corrodes, which then eventually releases and corrosion around the joint causes the reservoir to break off when there's some sudden movement like hitting a bump in the road.

The black thing that says Bilstein is just a plastic rock guard on the front. The reservoir is underneath it.

I think the connection rusts and weakens and then shock fluid pressure takes care of the rest.

I replaced mine as soon as I saw signs of leakage and corrosion. I replaced them with the Eibach Pro Truck Coilovers as a stop gap until I decided on what to replace them with (Kings or Fox) but I really like them and no longer see a reason to replace them any time soon.

Does anybody know what Ford charges for replacement including labor? Ballpark?

Im trying to do some napkin math on whether to trade in before this happens.

That's what mine looks like on the back and there's no other reservoir I can see unless it's above the coilover. And there's a yellow tube connected to the shock body. I guess I don't see what you're talking about.

Both technically incorrect.

The black piece saying "BILSTEIN" is a plastic sleeve that covers the reservoir. Probably protects from small rock strikes but I bet it also traps moisture exacerbating the issue.

This is my '23 bought late July 2023. So only one MN winter on them, and I am religious about winter carwashes that spray the underbody off from salt and grime during the winter months.

Already rusting in the gap bewteen rezi and shock body. I spray some oil on them to try and prolong the inevitable.

How am I wrong? Unless we're debating why it fell off, which I'll defer to whoever knows best. It probably ain't me on that count.

And y'know, putting training wheels on it I don't know helps... lol

You said the "black thing" is a reservoir. It's not. It's the cover for the reservoir.

No... I was telling them to look for the black thing in the photo so they could see what was missing. It's a cover for the reservoir, I know that.

Is this a rust belt only issue?
I've seen at least one guy in LA say his fell off. May be close to the coast and the salty air. I want to say someone around DFW at a meetup said it happened to them, but can't recall for sure.
