Block heater extension mod

I did a mod by adding a short (2ft long) extension cord and tucking it under the grill and front cover. See the pictures and let me know if you see any issues. Initially i tucked it closer to the middle but it was interfering with movements of the active louvers so I brought it up closer to the top. I filmed it and it seems fine now (I think). Maybe this is something someone will find useful OR let me know if I am out to lunch so I can get rid of it.

PS: I also 3D printed a TPU prong cover which I will place a link to.

Just unhook 2 clips and skip the extension. I unclipped about 4 and ran it out the bottom through my bumper, since I didn't have a OBX grille.

I should have done that but it's too late now. We will see if I have any issues down the road.

I got the block heater, but don't really use it because I think I read it's 1000W, and to run it all the time put a hurting on the electric bill. However, for $100 I'm glad I have it. How do you all use the block heater, do you leave it plugged in 24/7 or do you only plug it in when you know you're going to go somwhere in the next few hours?

You really need to use it for 4-5 hours. Sometimes even 2 hours helps. In really cold days when it’s -20 degrees Celsius, I leave it plugged in overnight or try to plug in 2 hours before I drive off if I remember. I didn’t know it was that powerful. I think 500W would would have been just fine. Thanks for the info

According to the manual, it's 400W to 1000W. It would be really nice to know which. But I have a fun little device that you plug into the wall, then plug something into it, and it will tell you what the device uses over time. I'll try that soon.

From the manual: " Note: The heater uses 0.4 to 1.0 kilowatt-hours of energy per hour of use. The system does not have a thermostat. It achieves maximum temperature after approximately three hours of operation. "

Only time I use it, is at work and it's parked outside, and the temp is around -30. I really only needs to be on about 2 hours before it's started.

When used to park outside in winter used an inline rad hose recirculating heat pump was amazing heater was hot in a couple min, plus a better warmer blanket.

Otherwise I just used 100% natural gas derived synthetic 5W30 or 40 never had a start issue but left it to run 15 min to warm up.

Been parking in climate control forever now but this is what I'd do if recirc works in Bronco.
