Borla Muffler Addon to Stype Catback

I installed the Borla Catback Sytpe exhaust on my Bronco last year. It had the short climber exit end for more clearance and cheaper price. I loved the sound but since I am in a 2 door the exhaust vents right above the rear axle and you can hear the whoosh when getting on the throttle through the back cargo area and after longer drives it got kinda tiring. At first it didn’t bother me but now since the exhaust has more time on it’s a bit louder for my taste. Granted it’s not much louder than stock. Another thing I noticed some times I would get a headache from the sound. Didn’t happen all the time however just long drives.

So enter the Borla muffler add on. I installed it today and wow it sure is quiet and the clearance is the same as the climber exit! The tip is just barely above the rear hitch and you can’t even tell it’s there from looking behind. Your hitch would scrape first on a rock before it ever come close to the exhaust. When I first started it up I didn’t hear any exhaust noises in the cabin and sounded just like stock! Maybe a slight more sound but not much. When driving around city driving it was not noticeable at all then I got on the highway and it sure came to life but not as noticeable without the additional Borla end muffler.

So if you have the Stype Catback and want more like stock get the muffler add on. If you have the touring Catback and want it super quiet get the muffler add on.

Long story short maybe I should have just got the touring model. Oh well, I’m happy with this mod to quiet down the Stype Catback. I can try and do sound clips but honestly Borla has some good ones on their website.

I was wondering that too. I took a look at the installation instructions.... While the pipes are the same pn on the two systems, the muffler pn's are different, #57817 for the Touring and #57818 for the S-Type. I have no idea what the difference is.

I went the in the other direction you did.... I bought the Touring system, and took the tail muffler off for more volume.

Well I heard back from Borla. The Touring Catback is the Stype with the muffler add on at the end. So essentially I made my Bronco had the Touring sound. Kinda cool it’s that’s customizable and cheaper add on for the Stype Catback!

The diagrams are incorrect for the parts list where it shows a different front muffler part number.

I read your other post from last year. I'm having the same issues with the tight space and the lines and cables being so close. Did you find a solution? Also, did you have any leaks? Both joints to the muffler of mine are leaking. Thanks in advanced for any info.

It’s tight I rotated the muffler slightly so it’s not near the brake line, wiring harness and driveline. The muffler does not move however. Even if I violently shake the muffler or push it hard. I also called Borla and they said it’s how it was designed to fill the entire area and was ran through a bunch tests and heat tests.

As for leaks, it’s normal to have condensation around the bands. But you have to rotate the bands correctly before tightening the clamps. Do not place the open part of the clamp on the gap part on the exhaust end. Let me know if that makes sense. I can take pics if you like.

Thanks! I have the clamps' open part away from those marking holes. I ordered some high temp gasket I have seen used for those stubborn pipes. I hope that does the trick. Thanks for your response.
