Was working on replacing pads and rotors when I realized I forgot about “brake maintenance mode”. I made the mistake of trying to enable that while the caliper was off the rotor and now leaked brake fluid and piston is fully extended.

I’ve since disconnected the electrical at the piston since the Bronco decided to keep trying to engage and drained more fluid.

Can I get this retracted while maintenance mode is still off?

Any bleeding tips for the Bronco?

Any help is appreciated.

Edit: didn’t mean to post in Raptor forum. This is a badlands 2.7L.

I watched a UTube video of a guy doing a rear brake job on a Honda product with the motor actuated emergency brake like ours. To bypass maintenance mode to fully retract the caliper, he just disconnect the connector at the brake motor on the caliper and applied 12V with a car battery in the correct polarity (he did hook up both ways to demonstrate). Seemed a pretty slick way to trick maintenance mode. That's my plan come brake job time as without access to maintenance mode, the honda manual recommended removing the motor assembly - seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Also, it looks like the Honda required a pretty fancy caliper retracter that interfaces with the caliper. I bought a kit from Harbor Freight for this that has inserts for multiple vehicles purportedly including Ford.

Boy I sure to miss the days of a C Clamp and a block of wood!

Disconnecting the battery was a useful way to not need about brake maintenance mode. I didn't want to worry about screwing anything up while the axle was at the shop and the calipers were hanging out on the hooks, so tried the battery disconnect. Vacuum bleeding was also quite effective with the battery disconnected and yielded no CEL after turning everything back on. I did try cracking the bleeder without being in maintenance mode with the brakes applied to see what would happen. Bronco did not like that. Not one bit.

Removing the motor is super simple. 2 bolts and a connector, can’t possibly mess it up.
Then just push the piston back in, no special tools required.
