Hey y’all, looking for some insight. I just installed an Injen CAI on my 2.3L 2023 BD. After install I noticed what sounds like an intake backfire. Has anyone else had this issue?

I’ve already went back and check all my hose connections and clamps everything is tight.

Do I need to get a tune to fix the issue? Or did I miss something?

Thanks in advance!

Did you disconnect the battery terminal prior to installing it?

Is the noise heard when coming off the throttle?

If so, you're probably hearing the boost bypass valve for the first time, since the factory intake blocks the noise completely. This noise is completely normal. It's the excess boost pressure from the turbo recirculating back into the intake.

I do not have a 2.3, but what was said @Agrod is probably correct. You start hearing a lot of different things with the Injen intake installed. I hear my turbo spooling and the bypass. I did go with a turbosmart valve as well.

It does happen when coming off the throttle, but it doesn’t sound like any bypass valve I’ve heard before.

So I unplugged the diverter valve and tested again and the noise didn’t happen so seems like y’all are correct! Plug it back in and the sound comes back.. any recommendations on an aftermarket diverter valve to eliminate the noise?

Yeap, that is your BOV venting. The Injen CAI lets you clearly hear it. You will also hear your turbo spooling as well if you have the window down...

@Big Pony got you right. A turbosmart plumb IN/BACK will get rid of the sweet PSSSSHHH sound.

The factory diverter valve is plumbed back into the intake, I don't think replacing it with a turbosmart that plums back into the intake would get rid of the sound. The only way to get rid of the sound would be to put your stock intake back on, the stock intake is designed in a way so you can't hear the factory diverter valve.

I’m hearing an after fire/backfire pop in that video as well, which is what I think the OP is wondering about. The 2.3 loves to pop and burble and as others have said, the factory intake is designed to muffle any noises from the turbo/engine. I deem it normal.

A vent to atmosphere bov should eliminate the sound in hearing
